Ooooh! Thanks Lena!

ETA: Yowza! I'm watching some of the videos that show the new features. I'm coming from CS3, so this is almost like a completely new program! I'm sooo excited!

I dl and installed it last night, but I'm still unsure of it. I get ps all set up to the way I like it with all my actions/styles added in and then I hate to try something new. The new features of CA are pretty neat but I'm not sold on CS6 yet.

Why am I so paranoid? I'm afraid it will mess up my CS5 if I download the trial.

Same here! As an average scrapper, I think CS5 has more power than I need. Besides, I have student version of CS5 which is not eligible for upgrades. So, might as well not get tempted by the beta version! lol

BUT, the new feature of fixing the blurred photo is kind of tempting to just get Beta to take care of bad photos before they all go in trash during Lynnette's spring clean-up marathon!

It's not just you. I'm tempted to try the beta but am worried something will get messed up with my CS3. I'll have to see if I can overcome the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality. I'm excited that CS6 is coming out--maybe CS5 prices will drop enough for me to upgrade.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that you will HAVE to have CS5 to upgrade to CS6. If you don't, you have to purchase the full version, right?

Also, I think if you purchase your version within xxx amount of time before the new one comes out, you may be eligible for a free upgrade. (I did this once. Of course it took a full year of haggling with Adobe before I saw the upgrade, but I did get it!)

From what I've read somewhere else, this is the last time they'll let you upgrade from two versions back. When CS7 comes out, you can only upgrade from CS6. For now, you can upgrade from CS4.

Do you know the time frame for free upgrade? I might give it a try! But then, it depends on WHEN the official CS6 comes out.

The page Penny linked to says you can get a free upgrade for the educational version - woohoo!

I tried to get a free upgrade when CS5 first came out. I didn't know about the upgrade program; I contacted customer support by phone and was told that I purchased outside the timeframe. If I remember correctly, it was 30 days. I think I purchased CS4 70 days before CS5 was announced .

I was thinking the same thing. Figures they would come out with it now. I think I upgraded late last year, but still. Just like with Apple products, I'm always too late. lol

I just had a live chat with Adobe and since CS6 haven't been officially released yet, they don't have any info on upgrades.

It can make your blurred photos sharp again. It should be somewhere on YouTube. They had a demo of it when they announced the new version. Let me see if I can find it somewhere.

oh please...if you have a link, post it.

I would dl the beta just for that. I have an adorable photo that is blurry. If it can be fixed, I'd be thrilled.

The blur removal tool is NOT in the CS6 beta. I kinda don't think it will be in this release. It was shown as something that was being developed for a "future release" but not necessarily in the "next" release.

I have been playing with the beta for the last two days. There are some cool features where you can ADD blur to your photos to give it the look of a more shallow depth of field, etc. You can pinpoint the areas that you want to be sharp, control the amount of blur in other areas and even add some bokeh effects. It's pretty cool, especially for peeps like me that don't have an SLR camera and can't achieve those effects when actually shooting the photos.

Oh, and - what I read on Adobe's website yesterday said that you could get the free upgrade if you purchased after the next release had been announced. And, as far as I know, they have not announced an actual release date for CS6, so I don't think those of you that have already purchased would be eligible for the upgrade. Me, I'm on CS3 and really want to get a suite next time I purchase since the last time I had a suite was with the original CS release and my InDesign isn't compatible with my OS anymore. I told DH that when the CS6 suites come out, I'm getting it. Luckily, we can get the academic version which saves us a TON!

Thanks, Lydia. I think I may stick with CS5, although I'll probably try out the beta of CS6. The content-aware move looks neat, and so does the ability to "un-fisheye" a photo that was taken with a wide-angle lens. Probably not enough to warrent getting the new software, though.

I've got CS5 and won't get CS6 since I just don't think the difference will be worth the $300 upgrade. New little tools but not a huge jump IMO from what I've read/seen. I'm still learning the power of CS5 and with two kiddos in school now the academic versions will work for me when I do chose to upgrade (I know I'm lucky, but hey I also have to clean up after them when they are sick so...it all balances right? LOL).

A few comments...
fish-eye look that you mentioned Kate, you can fix this in (CS5 not sure about other versions)ACR using the lens correction module. Just click on manual and then play with the sliders. So yeah...not worth an upgrade though and personally I love fisheye photos!

ayaandjuda (sorry I have to have siggies turned off so I can't see your name) if you are getting consistenly blurry photos of kids (totally reasonable because they don't sit still!) set your camera to shutter speed priority (AV mode I believe for canon but I could be wrong) and have your shutter speed AT LEAST 1/250 for semi-mobile kiddos and 1/500 for running/fast moving kiddos. Your camera by default will try to lower the SS to get the exposure right, but this doesn't work for kids!!! Forcing it to stay higher in shutter priority makes it lower the aperture and up the ISO. I'd rather have a little grain than blurry photos anyday. And I'm sure its just like the content aware feature...the anti-blur will only work so well and only on some photos anyway. Getting it "right" in camera is so much better. But believe me I have those photos that I've screwed up royally and want to fix too myself, so I'm not saying I'm perfect just trying to help out! If you don't have a dSLR, then set your P&S to sports mode. This will set the SS higher and you will get better kiddo shots. I do this with my waterproof P&S and only get a few blurry ones now.

And yes Adobe is going to the "you have to have the previous version of CS to upgrade." I have a feeling this may backfire on them as people will put off further doing upgrades until they feel it is worth the $$$ of a full install. And they are still doing academic pricing, so there is still an "out" for some of us!
