Default Revisiting Bare Minerals

So...my SIL uses Bare Minerals and did a little mini-makeover on me over Christmas break. I have to say, with such little work, I was absolutely shocked at how much better I looked. It covered SO much, and I certainly didn't feel like I had any make up on, and everything was so smooth!

Now, I need to buy some...where's the best place to get a starter kit?

Is that the one you can get the sampler for free online? I know there was a thread about it on here not long ago discussing mineral makeups. Some of them have free samplers and you just pay shipping I think.

We didn't take pics, Nee Nee, but it was amazing. I have bad skin (happens when you get old and fat LOL), and a spot of spider veins on my cheek, and they almost disappeared with it. I was so happy! I sat around all evening, looking at Russ and saying..do I still look good?! LOL

Oh Darcy....you have me cracking up over here. I can totally picture that scene in my mind. So you.

I swear by my Bare Minerals and it even covers my freckles really well cuz I have a ton of them and I don't like them (I know, I know...they're cute....what eva). It also covers really well when you have rosacea.

I usually buy mine from JCPenney when they mail me coupons or have a big sale going.

I use Everyday Minerals because I am cheap like that. Plus I love buying make up. http://www.everydayminerals.com/

I have not tried any other mineral company but I am very pleased with the results I get from Everyday Minerals. You can get samples and freebies from them to try em out.

Darcy, are you anywhere near NorthPark Center? They have a BE boutique there where you can easily get color matched by people trained to work with the product. IMO, it's best to do that, then turn to QVC to buy the actual product. They offer some great deals on the foundations and other products, I used to get most of my BE from there.

I've been seriously considering Bare Minereals because the acne is so bad this pregnancy. I just don't want to look at it anymore in pictures. Plus, I want some color without a ton of makeup because I honestly hate makeup.

I get all of mine from Sephora-or if I'm lucky enough to be in a Mall with a BE Boutique. I'm like a kid in a candy store when I hit the actual boutique!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Bare Escentuals. I got mine at one of their boutiques in the mall, however, I know that lots of department stores are carrying the line now. I think Macy's, Sephora and even Nordstroms has it now. Definitely go to a dept. store or boutique if you can and have a consultation. It is free and they color match you and then show you how to apply the different layers of makeup. Good luck!

I have some- but when I first tried it, I ended up making such a mess, I put it up! Plus, I often am throwing makeup on as I drive (bad I know, but at least I'm not texting! heck I don't even look in the mirror- that's only risky for my face!)

I got a starter set at Ulta really cheap... maybe I should try again (and wake up 15 minutes earlier so I can put it on BEFORE I leave!)

I prefer Everyday Minerals to Bare Escentuals. It's more economical, and something about BE was shiny and itchy for me.

glad you like them! i'm devoted. think ulta has good deals, or you might try their store online, if you can't get to a brick-n-mortar store . . . hadn't thought of sephora, either, but ya!

So the last time this thread went aroudn I posted that BE didn't last all day for me, it always wore off.

I decided to pick up a few new pieces and also got the Prime Time "primer", which is a really light and dreamy cream that you put on before you apply the makeup. It makes all the difference in the world! Now it really lasts for me - all day! I bought everything at sephora, but later I went to amazon and noticed that the primer was $5 less at Amazon! so I'd definitely check them out since the starter kits are usually the same price everywhere.

I also got the new matte foundation powder, which comes with a new type of jar that has a twisty lid so it closes up when not in use (like a spice jar). ROCKIN', because I travel with my makeup a lot.

and lastly - one more little item I picked up that I totally loved:

It's the retractable kabuki brush by Too Faced. The bristles on this brush are SO SOFT!! and it's so full and thick - it applies a great coating of foundation, too.

I get mine at Ulta or Sephora. I've seen only a few of the boutiques, and I usually just like to look around when I see those.

I've been using BE since I was a junior in high school (so....10 years I guess? something like that). I LOVE it. I could stand to go in and find some new eyeshadow colors. Maybe in a few weeks. I'm trying not to spend any $$ right now.

I really like Aromaleigh's mineral makeup. I'm currently only using it as concealer with Clinique's Almost Powder makeup, but used it all over in the past. I have rosacea and found it really did a good job of toning down the red.

I never found a good color match with BM, as I'm very yellow-undertoned... and I didn't like the shimmer.

When I used BE I initially bought from QVC.com for the starter kit and then bought replacements at either Sephora or Ulta. I don't use it anymore for many reasons being I can't afford it and I found it wasn't doing that great of coverage as time went on and that included using a primer. But I know so many who love it.

Hey gals. I am a make-up artist and stylist and while I was at first very impressed with BE now I would reccomend earthen glow or everyday minerals. EG is the better of the two.

No matter what company you choose, it really helps if you use a primer. This is gonna sound so weird...but monistat makes a anti chafing cream and it is awesome primer (exact same ingredients as smash box primer) for 1/3 the cost. It smooths your skin and keeps the minerals on much much longer. i use this on all my clients and they love how it makes there skin look and it really controls the oil.

One of the things that makes EG and EDM better is you can get a matte or glow-unlike BE (NO I DON"T WORK FOR EITHER OF THESE COMPANIES)

If you are into mineral eyeshadow check out aromaleigh they have great mineral eye colors.

Just wanted to share a tip and opinion from a professional standpoint

I am devoted to BE...tried half a dozen other minerals and none of them stack up to the coverage, staying power, and clarity of skin. I never buy anything else. You can check for deals here but not sure if there are any http://bareescentuals.com/

I got my last shipment from an infomercial I saw on tv...just so happened I was due for a new pot of foundation and they had a killer deal. But I usually buy right from the website.

Hope you love it!!

Doesn't BE have a matte version now too though? I thought they had matte or original.

I bet they do and I just didn't know. It has been about 3 years since I have used BE. I use Earthen Glow and Aromaleigh the most .

Yeah I think it's pretty new. I went to one of the boutiques back in October and all the shopping bags were covered with a big ad for it. I actually bought some of the original foundation but I've been too scared to use it.

BE does have a matte version now and it's so much better (for me) than the original formula. No more itchies from the Bismuth Oxychloride, no more shiny face, no more reflection in flash photography. Yeah!!

I get mine from Sephora. I started with this:

http://www.sephora.com/browse/produc...Paginate=true#

It lasted FOREVER and now I only pick up things as I need them. So worth it to me.

I love BE. I have had it since July and am only now running out of the foundation. Love their eyeshadows and liners. They have awesome brushes too. I got my starter kit online but get my replacements at the BE boutique at the mall. I could spend lots of money there.

I switched from BE to Alima or Everyday Minerals. I just like them a little better and they're less expensive. I use the Monistat as a primer and it works like a charm. I also highly recommend Everyday Minerals make-up brushes, they are awesome, don't shed bristles etc. and they're not expensive either.

I use Smashbox Photo Finish Primer OVER my BE foundation and it erases all my pores. Using it under doesn't work for me.

Also, QVC gets exclusive items all the time that you can't get at a store for like a year. They have it as a TSV a few times a year and I usually buy it then and get some fun stuff.

I've been using BE for years and love it! I tried several of the cheaper ones during a bit of a budget crisis we went through and none of them ever measured up.

I buy from QVC or Sephora, but now I'm going to check out some of these other places, too. Thanks for the tips, ladies!

And yes, Darcy, I think that's a great one to start with.
