Default Am I wrong? (postage thing)

Have the rules changed on me? Isn't it the sender's responsibility to provide enough postage on an item before putting it in the mail? More and more lately I've been getting mail that my postal carrier attaches envelopes and snarky notes about owing HER postage. Sure, it's piddly amounts (the most was just under $1, the least 10¢), but what ever happened to sending it back when there's not enough postage? C.O.D. is one thing, but the item today? I paid $2 for shipping and they only put 82¢ postage on it.

I'm surprised it even made it out of the person's post office to get through to you. It should've been returned for lack of postage.

I would tell you PO that you don't want things to be let through if they don't have enough postage.

It happened all the time when I was a member of coupon trains. It's one of the reasons I stopped doing it.

I know here they will return it to the sender due to insufficient postage....I'd complain to your local Post Office....I mean, if it were C.O.D. that would be one thing but since it is not, you definitely should not be the one paying the extra postage....

No, you aren't wrong. Can you contact the person sending it to you, I'm assuming Ebay or Etsy and tell them? Especially if you already paid more than they did for shipping and then you are paying more on top of that.

My mom who was a postal carrier for over 9 years would say that it shouldn't have gotten through to you if there is postage due on it... it should have been sent back to the sender... and to complain to your post master.

Thanks ladies!!

Honestly, I don't usually mind paying the extra since it's not something I paid any shipping charges to start. This one just irked me since I did pay $2 shipping and they couldn't manage to put the right amount of postage on the envelope.

I'm putting in a call to the route manager tomorrow since this seems to happen way more than it should. I've had numerous dealings with him regarding our carrier, so if he says to call the post office directly, I will.

This has happened to me twice in the past few months - once from an Etsy seller that didn't put enough postage - which irked me. I paid them $5 for shipping, they only put $3 on it, and when it was delivered it had an 80 cent postage due note on it.

The other time was for some junk mail that had 2 cents postage due on it. Gimme a break!

I agree that I always thought that it would be returned, but guess not!

this just happened to me!!! I was only mad because it was something I "won" and she supposedly offered free shipping when you actually paid for what it was!

I got a baby shower invitation with 18c due on it. I thought it was wierd too. Then again, if you are waiting for something, do you want them to send it back? I would rather pay it and get m stuff, then complain to the sender.

Oh, I'd definitely rather receive the package! I just wish people would actually do their jobs too. I'm starting to wonder if it's not my PO that's adding these postage due claims though. I get them from all over so I find it slightly hard to believe that that many P.O.s would drop the ball on postage.

I was so irritated at the post office last week. I went in to purchase a 2oz stamp. I had the girl weigh it just in case. Yep, it was 2oz. So I said to her, go ahead and put a metered stamp on it and I'll buy some extra 2oz. The next thing I know, she's stamped my envelope with hand cancel and charged me an extra charge. I said, why did you do that? She said, well, it feels like photos. I said, well, they aren't and you shouldn't have done that without my consent. She said sorry and still charged me.
