tough day :(
Earlier today my mom, me and my toddlers were going to head over to the stores to do some shopping. After loading the girls into their car seats my daughter tells me she needs to use the potty. I run her back into the house and she is so excited she runs back out of the house. My dog followed her out and ran off. By the time my mom could grab my daughter and I could get the car out of the driveway she was no where to be seen.
I spent a good half hour looking for her. I was driving around with my other daughter when my husband called. Just as I was telling him I couldn't find her I look over and see her cowering on the stoop of our neighbor around the corner. I call her and she doesn't come. She just sat there leaning against their house. I jump out of the car and go over and she is covered in cuts and scratches with a huge gash down the whole top of her head. She is terrified and wide eyed. I get her into the car, run back to my house for a leash and to drop off my other daughter who was still in the car. I call my vet and tell him I am on the way. They tell me they are booked up and there is only one vet there. While I am on hold Im still driving there. Finally they tell me they will see her. They think she got hit by a car. She was very lucky though and doesn't appear to have any broken bones. So far it doesn't look like she has internal bleeding. I have to keep watch over her and check her gums several times a day. There is a small area on the side of her chest that may be injured, but it doesn't look broken. Several xays, stitches, morphine and $500. later we are back home. Tonight I have to keep checking her to make sure she doesn't get worse. This could have been a very bad day for our family, I am so grateful that she is with us and that hopefully she just keeps improving. Her face is all scratched up and both of her eyes are damaged. She is going to look like a bait dog, but if that is all that happens that's fine by us.

Oh goodness, that is quite an eventful day! I'm so sorry, I can only imagine how scary that was with 2 dogs myself. I'm glad she appears to be okay overall, and hope she heals quickly!

Thanks everyone. It was the first time I've had a dog get hit by a car as an adult. One of our dogs got hit when I was 9 years old and it really traumatized me. I am so tired and burned out. I wanted to do my layouts for the shadowbox challenge tonight. but you know what they say.. god laughs when man plans.
I am so burned out, I'm going to be overloaded tomorrow with my husband working a double, my toddlers, caring for my pup and I have to complete 3 layouts to keep up with TOTB and the shadowbox. My brain is frazzled.

Thanks everyone. My husband slept with her in our guest room. There is a trundle bed in there so she slept on the bottom bed and hubby on the top. She is in good spirits every time I come near her she starts wagging her tail. Even when she was getting examined her tail was wagging and she was kissing the vet. She is such a strong dog. Her feet took some damage, a few of her nails are shredded, her face and head got the worst of i,t but there are several bruises and abrasions all over her paws. Her hip has a bad bruise. When I brought her home, our other animals (2 cats and a chihuahua) came over to give her a thorough inspection. Keeping the kids away from her was easier than I thought. Im impressed they showed such restraint.
She just took her medication and ate breakfast. She is not as doped up, the morphine has worn off. I think she is going to be fine within a few days. Its a good thing she is the size she is. If that was my little dog there is no way he wouldn't have made it.
