Default Catch Me Up to This Decade, Please

Hi, all!
Before this month, it had been 6 years since I'd done any scrapping. It was really nice to get back to it, but I feel like I'm out of touch with what to do with my pages.

I have some 12x12 albums for some pages. This month, I finished our 2009 Disney album so I printed those pages to add to the existing album.

I ended up buying a new wide-format printer this month as well, as I had ink issues with the older one. I got an Epson XP-15000 and while the print quality is wonderful, it's a bit of an ink hog. I'm not sure it's practical to print my pages from home anymore.

So, bring me up to speed on what to do? Print from home? Send out for 12x12 prints? Shutterfly albums? I just feel out of touch.

I took advantage of the Shutterfly sale for a smaller project that I also finished this month. I had a little sticker shock so I ordered a 10x10 album (28 pages)

Help!

Welcome back!

Not sure about everyone else, but I print photobooks now. It's a LOT cheaper to do that where I live, than print individual pages. The photobooks are so much smaller too, and fit nicely on the coffee table or on a shelf. I tend to do 8x8 size, though 10x10 would be nice too. (They just don't offer 10x10 here). I like 8x8, just making sure my journalling is readable when viewed at 25% on the monitor when I create my page.

I only print books for specific albums - like a Disney vacation. All my “regular” pages I print at persnicketyprints.com and put in a three ring album. A 12x12 print is $1.99 but you can buy print credits to bring the price down to $1.49. I don’t scrap in order but I like my albums to go by year so this gives me more freedom than printing an entire book at a time.

You & me both! I haven't scrapped since 2014 and just got back into it in April.

I usually print my pages in the Shutterfly albums (though I just do 8x8). My daughter absolutely loves them (of course almost all my pages are about her!) but that's why I print them into albums.

I have a ton of free coupons for photobooks from the Safeway Monopoly game if you need any!

Welcome back! I switched to printing only Shutterfly photo books a few years ago. If you wait for the right sale, it ends up costing less than printing individual pages and the books are much more compact. But there's really no right or wrong way to print--if individual pages works best for you, then Persnickety Prints is the best place I've printed.

Welcome back!

I've been using Prestophoto.com since 2009. I LOVE their 8.5x8.5 size. I used Shutterfly prior to them, I'd printed both 12x12 and 8x8 photobooks. I just printed my 50th photobook a few weeks ago. Their prices are pretty good I think.

For a comparison for you I have a book sitting my cart with 98 pages. They have various sizes, papers, bindings, etc.

Here are just some of the prices and sizes they offer for that book. The only thing I will say if you use them, which would be true with any place you print, watch your edges. 2 books ago, I lost some photos in the gutter of the book. So I've started adding a .25 inch border through their site. Here's the last book I printed with them if you'd like to see it. https://youtu.be/0trW84S_awI

I have mostly only printed travel albums in the past few years. I print 8x8 size through Shutterfly and just wait for their flat rate sales.

You can also sign up with a new e-mail to get a free 20 page album. Having 4 teenagers each with their own e-mails, we've taken advantage of this! It may be "tricking" the system, but they each get their own Shutterfly account set up and I'm still paying for shipping & handling etc.

Another bound book option is Printique (formerly AdoramaPix). They do a big sale occasionally, and I've gotten books printed from them cheaper than Shutterfly. If you do bound albums, lay flat is the way to go.
