Default Maybe I need to put the camera down...

Yesterday well I was at Lilly's preschool orientation, one of the mom's thought I worked there because I walking around taking pictures...and then today someone asked if I was from out of town because I was taking photos in the street will my girls. To be fair, I live in a city that doubles it's population in the summer from tourists. But still, I look like a tourist now? LOL

Has anyone else gotten strange questions from people that don't understand that you are a mamarazzi?

They always ask me if I'm from the newspaper. LOL

I think it's the long lens.

We took the boys to a friend's birthday party last Sunday and I heard one of the other guests ask our friend, "Why'd you hire a photographer for a birthday party? Isn't she the one from your wedding? I'd have done it for free!"

Yep, been asked if I was with the paper, and I got a really nice vantage point at an airshow just because of walking around with the camera. DH got some great pics of DD at a small outdoor Christian concert because people let him walk around the back of the stage without asking any questions. It pays to have a long lens or two.

i get funny looks sometimes at the park when i'm trying to take pictures of the kids. it makes me self conscious, lol. i dont ever see anyone else taking photos around here. and i don't have a long lens. just my 50mm. i have a zoom lens but dont' use it much; it was dropped and i dont think my photos come out very sharp now.

I took Tony's XTi to my salon with me today, Amelia went for the first time to get pink in her hair. It's quite expensive, it's my little splurge every 6-8 weeks, but I wanted her to get it done by an expert. As a scrapbooker, I needed to get step by step pictures from the before to the after...right? LOL! No one said anything, but I got some crazy looks LOL

oooohhh.... I need a long lens!!!

I, too, feel a bit self-conscious taking photos out in public, I always fear that someone of importance is going to start questioning me like I'm a criminal casing the joint. So, I usually always have my P&S ready to go in my pocket with my finger on the trigger... pull it out and get my shot... hmm... come to think about it... maybe that's not a great idea if they already think I'm a criminal... hmmm.... need a new plan.

I'm so intent on taking photos that I never notice anyone's looks funny or otherwise!

I find it to be a nice icebreaker sometimes. I went to the county fair this summer and had 3 separate people approach me to ask me what kind of camera it was, if I was a pro, etc. I think it's kinda fun.

I think I prolly get so many weird looks just by being me that I'm completely oblivious to them now!

I don't buy myself clothes, I don't do much shopping, so my hair is my "thing" LOL. I pay around $180 every 2 months. I go to a nice salon where they do a scalp massage, apply hot towels, it's awesome. I don't mind paying a bit extra for the two hours of kid-free relaxation time LOL.

This is me too! Last weekend at the Farmer's Market my hubby had to drag me away from one of the guys at a fruit stand as we talked about cameras...I just try not to pay any attention and focus on getting the shots I want.

Ha ha...when DD got her braces they thought I was NUTS! I was standing over them taking pics through the whole process. They had never had a Mom do that ever.

Thank goodness I worked there or they might not have let me cuz I was a little obnoxious....I even made the assistant pose with her afterwards. LOL

I was getting self-conscious with my big lense so I asked for a purse p&s. I hate going to the restaurant, the stores, etc, with my big DSLR.

Now I need a big lens! LOL My daughter finally donated her hair and her hair dresses was really cool about letting me get some shots. I couldn't believe I actually remembered the camera! So I was able to get a few pics of the experience to scrap a page!

Whatever you do, don't pull out the tripod! For some reason people think you are Super Photographer if you use one, LOL.

Great post! Now when I'm self-conscious I'll just think of all of my SSD friends around the world who are getting funny looks when they're snapping away too.

Ditto this! Some people just stare at you like they have never even seen a camera.
