Default random question of the day...

Do you have a weird food that you like? Ya know, like something most people would turn their nose at. For me, I actually like prunes. I buy them all the time, and think they are quite tasty. How about you?

Mine would probably not be a specific food, but a food combination. I love to dip potato chips in applesauce. So yummy. Oh, and I like to eat peas in applesauce too.

I like prunes & brussel sprouts and all sorts of supposedly "nasty" things. I do like a few odd combination. DH thinks I'm gross because I like to sip the pickle juice after the pickles are gone.

Funny about the prunes. I'm 27 weeks pregnant and severely anemic so I'm on 2 iron pills a day plus my prenatal vitamins.

So as you can imagine.......I need prunes. At first I gagged at them but they're really not that bad at all!

My weird food is Lentils. No one else I know likes them but me, I LOVE THEM! Too bad they make my blood sugar go up.

Never knew prunes, Brussels sprouts or sauerkraut were supposed to be nasty. :-) Sauerkraut is *the* thing in my own country and in Luxembourg and its neighbouring regions as well.

As far as liking something that most people I know don't fancy too much - tomato juice. :-)

I thought some more (I'm avoiding vacuum cleaning, you see) and came up with some more:

- lard (bread with lard sprinled with salt is yum - sorry if you find it disgusting!)
- bacon (not English bacon, even though I like it as well), but the fatty one
- foie gras
- magret de canard
- goat cheese
- all kinds of smelly French cheese variants
- salmiakki (salty liquorice, usually eaten in all possible forms in Scandinavia)
- liquorice as such
- sashimi (raw seafood)
- mussels
- the non-pasteurized Slovak milk product known as bryndza

Also, for some reason, people dislike white yoghurt, which is the only kind that I really like.

I love all the food.

One weird thing I used to eat a lot (haven't had lately but now I want it) is liverwurst and cream cheese on ritz crackers. Mmm.

Interesting question.

I don't have any weird combinations right now, but I absolutely LOVE pickled asparagus (Costco super yummy!). Everyone at my house eats it like candy, including my daycare kids, which their parents are always shocked. LOL

At New Years, a friend of ours made me try ketchup chips with onion dip...not bad.

When I was a teenager and worked at McD's, I used to love french fries, vinegar and mayo.

Since I dislike most normal foods, meat, berries, etc, I love a lot of food most people hate. I like nearly all vegetables. One thing that people always think is weird is pickle sandwichs, I put a Polish dill pickle and miracle whip on a hot dog bun. Yummy.

Okay... then I must be weird... because most of the things listed like ranch with anything, asparagus, sauerkraut, feta, prunes, etc... I all love! I love mayo with my fries and if there is malt vinegar around, that goes on too (shouldn't have that re: gluten)... I can't think of anything that is weird... Oh, pickled beets! No one in my likes them... I LOVE them.

Re: salt on watermelon... all the men in my family do this A LOT! And we are all from the north. And for drinking pickle juice... my hubby does that... I've never seen that before being with him.

I love eating a fresh boiled potato with salt sprinkled on it... and I love (but haven't done this in years) is putting sugar on a homegrown tomato. And I love tomato cut up and put into my mac and cheese...

this is actually really good. I make a dip that's basically just the two combined together in the food processor. We eat it on Ritz or Triscuits. Also yummy is smoked salmon and cream cheese on the same crackers.

this is the only thing that has really made me gag... But more so- because when my mom went back to work- there were days during one summer that my dad was left alone with my brother and i....and well.. he doesn't cook. He fed us- all summer- hot dogs, pasta, and liverworst sandwiches. *Shudders* it still makes me gag.

I'm sure there are plenty of things that I eat that other people find disgusting. but who knows I ignore everyone.. so I don't really know what disgusts them I love spanish olives *shrugs* that's the only thing I can really think of that people huff at me about. I could eat jars of those nummy green olives.

My mom used to make this dessert when I was a kid...a sauce made of brown sugar and raw egg whipped together (no I have NEVER gotten sick from it) and put it over hot cooked white rice. It is SO yummy! I think I might go make some right now. :P

Most everyone I know think I eat lots of weird thingsn - I'm vegetarian and eat all kinds of "weird" things like lentil stews; lentil, bean, or bulger burgers; seitan; any vegetable (love 'em all); edamame; etc. etc. I love any dried fruit (including prunes, apricots, mango, etc.) I love V8. I HATE eggs, and most think that is weird. DD and I both like to dip grilled cheese sandwiches in homemade applesauce (must be homemade) and we both LOVE picked garlic cloves.

Oh, and salt on melons - DH ALWAYS did this - any kind of melon and also apples. He was a southern boy from Virginia.

I love mayonnaise. I could have it alone on bread. Also love cheese, even the stinky ones. And feta cheese is one of my favorites!

I really love buttered toast slathered with strawberry jam-eally good. And it's a common side dish here, but green mango (a mango that isn't ripe yet, so it's sour) with salt or soy sauce makes me salivate!

We love all of those. We are pretty adventurous eaters:
-liver and heart
-black pudding
aw oysters and canned smoked oysters
-bleu cheese
-any kind of fish/seafood
-escargot
-lentils, beans and such

I'm not a ketchup, sauce or dip kind of girl, but the exception is that I always put ketchup and mayo on my burgers.

I'm another V8 drinker and sauerkraut lover . . . the spicier, the better! I also love almost all peppers & used to eat Jalapeno sandwiches when I was pregnant. The most remarkable thing that I LOVE that most people find disgusting is sardines!

One other thing I really love that I used to have when I was younger and it kinda stuck with me is port wine cheese on bologna and then just roll the bologna up. So good

Oh I love just about anything. Liverwurst is the best, so are smoked oysters, raw oysters, seafood, blue cheese, escargot, lentils, bulgur, cottage cheese (plain thank you), fries with mayo, feta cheese, poutine...you name it I pretty much eat it.

I like prunes.

This thread has made me realize that I don't really know what liverwurst is.

eta: Ok, now I know what it is. No thanks.

Dh thinks I'm weird because I like scrambled eggs w/ ketchup. I like ketchup on most meats, not lunch meat, but like I'll eat it on Fried Chicken, Christmas Ham, Thanksgiving Turkey, steak, pork chops.

I eat salt on Watermelon, I'm from the south, so I don't know if its a southern thing or not.

And I guess the weirdest thing I like is Mayo & Banana Sandwiches. FYI, don't knock it until you try it. Mayo, White Bread and a sliced up banana. YUM!

Oh, I love fried hotdogs. LOL!

Slice them up and brown them in the skillet for breakfast, with ketchup or syrup.

I didn't realize it was considered weird! Here those that DON'T do it are the exception. Hubs will take ketchup on fried eggs too as well as scrambled.

Actually the only time I'm adding ketchup to anything is when eating sausages and scrambled eggs. And now I learn the latter is weird! :-D

Don't mistake me, I like ketchup (I even make my own ketchup from time to time), we just aren't that much into ketchup hereabouts. :-)

I like ketchup on my scrambled eggs. I also sprinkle parmesan cheese on them (yes with the ketchup LOL). I like fried sausage (like beef kielbasa kind) and I dip it in maple syrup. I also dip breakfast sausage in maple syrup. I like fried egg sandwiches on toast with miracle whip...I break the yolk after I make the sandwich and let it drip onto a plate and dip the sandwich in the yolk. oh and fried hotdogs...love them!! I mix up ketchup and mustard to dip them in. If I am out of either ketchup or mustard I just wont eat them

He fed us- all summer- hot dogs, pasta, and liverworst sandwiches. *Shudders* it still makes me gag.

I agree it might be a bit much on a sandwich. That'd be a lot of liverwurst. lol

My weird food is drinking sugar free lemonade or strawberry lemonade hot. Yummy and no calories/points! Just heat the water, and pour in the the little packet.

ETA: I also eat feta and goat cheese in salads and put ketchup on scrambled eggs (when I'm not using feta or another cheese on them), but I didn't know all of that was weird until this thread, LOL. Like Marie, I'm a vegetarian and eat lots of soy substitutes (soy hot dogs, bacon, ground beef, etc), Quorn, and seitan. A Chinese restaurant near me has a vegetarian section of the menu where they make all sorts of things with seitan and other meat substitutes. Sooooo yummy. I won't order from any other Chinese restaurant.
