Since the recent upgrade to the photos app, I am unable to drag photos directly from Photos (used to be iPhotos) to Photoshop. It is so frustrating! I am a drag and drop type girl. The only way I can get my photos into PS now is to copy the photo to the desktop and drag it in to there.

Anyone have a trick to be able to get photos from Photos into PS?

I'd be interested to hear the answer, as I have the same problem with lightroom!

To get photos into Lightroom, I have to open it and then import directly from my phone/SD card.

I know Lydia's played with Photos so maybe she'll have an answer for you but my understanding is it doesn't support third party apps yet which is probably why you can't open them that way anymore l.

Yeah . . . I'm no help. I downloaded the beta version to look around a few months ago. And, I wasn't very impressed, so I haven't done much in there anymore. I didn't even know they'd released it to the public yet. Ha!

Long story, short . . . unless some major improvements are made, I won't be using Photos. If you ask me, it's worse than iPhoto, and I abandoned iPhoto ages ago.

I, too, abandoned iPhoto sometimes ago and knows nothing about Photos... I just do my photos in old fashioned way, a folder for each month and one big year folder for 12 months folders.

I was happy with my older version of iPhoto, but have been increasingly unhappy after the past several mandatory "upgrades." Boo...

I did use iPhoto to rename photos from the generic camera name to a date convention that I prefer. Haven't figured out if there is a way to do it in Finder instead, as I use iPhoto less and less... Anyone have a mac trick for renaming photos in bulk?

Thanks!

I've always disliked iPhoto. Not sure what this Photos is you speak of, guess I haven't updated lol. I use iPhoto to import from my phone but that's it. I export right away then remove them from iPhoto. No help here, just sharing my disdain!

I was SO excited when I got my iMac but have noticed my scrap time is getting less and less because of the effort it takes to open a photo. I need to just go back to my yearly folders and be done with it!!!

I only use iPhoto to import, I use ACDSee for Mac for scrapping, which you can drag and drop from. If I couldn't drag and drop, I'd probably go nuts, it would take so long to open everything.

I have never used iPhoto, I had my own system in place and didn't want to change it. I think I'm glad LOL

Ugh! I've been so frustrated over this! But in doing a google search I learned that the old iPhoto is still on our computer... so I opened it. And all my pictures are there, AND I can still drag and drop in to PSE! I was so excited I thought I'd share!

oh that is awesome! *running off to check*

The only photos in this stupid new program are those that come from my camera - which isn't much since I have been using my phone most of the time. Today is the first day I had to get photos off my big girl camera for a Sticky Learning I'm working on... I was so not happy having to export them to get at them... what a stupid design flaw! My husband, who is a huge Mac junky, said that all the blogs he follows, love this new program... apparently these people don't do anything with the photos once they are off the camera! haha
