Default Just got the BEST bad news

You guys seriously don't know how happy I am right now.

I've had this "best" friend since I was in 2nd grade. We were SUPER close up until about probably 4 years ago. She has a VERY addictive personality. She had gastric bypass done about 8 years ago (she was obviously addicted to food), once she had that done, she started smoking (again), she quit that, started smoking the funny stuff, stopped that, went to pain pills, stopped that, now for the past probably 8 months or so she's been drinking 1-2 bottles of wine a day plus taking her "prescribed" pain pills. She thinks that no one knows her "dirty little secret" when in reality she's so messed up all the time that she doesn't realize she has lost all of her friends, as well as her husband and kids (not literally but ykwim).

Well, last night her husband and sister gave her an ultimatum. Either she goes to rehab now or they are totally cutting her out of their lives...she's on her way right now to rehab. I know, it's horrible that she even has to go, but thank GOD for small miracles. She was so close to losing everything and everyone, this is like every single prayer answered. I'm so glad that someone got through to her!

Went through something similar with my parents. It is true that when they lose one addiction they replace it with another. For my parents they went from alcoholism to gambling. It is really sad to see that kinda thing happening to someone you care about

So glad that the intervention was successful. I hope that she'll get the help she needs in treatment.

I so hope that the intervention works. I am the daughter of an addicted parent and I know the pain it causes.

Wow that really is good bad news. I was trying to figure out how that could be possible! I hope that rehab is the answer for your friend!

That is who I'm most concerned about Samara. She has a 6 year old daughter, who already has major anxiety issues amongst other things, and a 3 year old daughter as well. Her poor husband has been so strong through all of this! Thanks for all the well wishes ladies!

I'm glad she agreed to get help! My best friend wouldn't and ended up overdosing on pain pills- she died from it 3 years ago...

Laura, I totally understand what you mean....Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you look at things, someone needed to give her an ultimatum....I will keep your friend and her family in my thoughts and prayers....

That's really too bad for everyone that they have to deal with something like that. But I'm so glad to hear that she's getting help and it sounds like she will have the support of her family.

It's unfortunate she is addicted, but it's a good sign she decided to go to rehab. I really hope it works out for her!

that's wonderful the intervention helped, I know it sounds bad to be happy about that, but such a great thing. I'm happy she didn't choose the alternative.

that is GREAT bad news!! I feel for you. My brother is in a treatment center right now. He's been through detox three times this year, and AA and all that, but he keeps falling. Sometime taking the hard line with someone you love is the only way. I truly hope she's able to change. She'll need a great friend like you!
