Default Gaming Consoles... Help!

sooo.... while doing some research on which Skylanders game to get for my boys [I love last minute additions to wish lists], I've discovered that our current gaming system is nearly extinct. we have a Wii and unfortunately most of the newer games either aren't available or tend to run with glitch issues.

I am feeling a bit overwhelmed by both choice and cost of what's available and am not sure what direction to take. I hadn't planned on another BIG ticket item for Christmas this year, but could save some of the Christmas gifts I have for upcoming Feb/March birthdays to justify it.

anyone care to school me on what I might want to consider for my boys? PS4? Xbox One or 360? Wii U?? I would greatly appreciate your input!

We have an Xbox 360 and love it. It is a dated system now though, so if I was buying new, I would buy the Xbox One. The Kinect is a lot of fun for games, too.

If you are going the skylanders route I'd get the newest of any system brand. Last year we got the boys swap force, and it wouldn't run on our 360.... (and even though the newest ones are the most expensive, they are going to have the longest life as tech stuff grows), also they are soon going to be stopping making any new games for the 360. My boys loved their wii, but weren't interested in how the wii u was set up, but if your kids are younger, that brand still has the most variety for age appropriate games. We are upgrading to an xbox One this year.... (we're nerds, have every system even made since the beginning of time.... thank goodness for yard sales!!).... I have no major complaints about any system, it's really going to depend on what kind of games you want to get....each franchise has it's own exclusives.

The wii u! My kids all love it 4, 7, 9, 13. And you can use your wii games with it. We have other systems (hubby is a big gamer) but my kids always use the wii u.

We have Wii too, and I'm considering upgrading to Wii U. Mostly because if I choose anything else I'll also need to buy all new games. With the Wii U we can still use the Wii games we already have.

xbox 360 is still great, but it won't be around for much longer. luckily, it's been around for awhile so there really are a ton of games you still get, especially from places like gamestop. I've heard great things about the Wii U and plan to upgrade soon (we're putting all our extra money towards paying of DH's truck, so nothing big anytime soon). I really really want one though. My BIL has an XBox 1 and loves it, but it's still new enough that there aren't many games yet.

thanks so much, girls!!

i def think that Xbox One is out for us... as there just aren't enough games for the younger age group [my boys are 8, 5 & 3]. I do really like the idea of Wii U as everything we currently have could still be used, but i think there are a couple of games that my boys really want [ie: Minecraft & Plants vs. Zombies] that i'm not sure are available for Wii U. anyone know?

We are surprising the kids with a Wii U for Christmas, we have a Wii now.

DH has a PS3 & PS4, but that's only for him.

I don't think Minecraft is, at least not yet. plants VS Zombies isn't either. You can get plants vs zombies for the ds

Edited, they're not on the Wii U

We love our Wii U (the handheld console is great when someone wants to watch tv- then it works like a DS)
My only gripe with our Wii U, is that it doesn't look like they'll be making a MInecraft game for it- which has my kids completely bummed out!

Minecraft is now owned by Microsoft... so, yeah, unlikely to hit Nintendo
