Question Are you getting a stimulus bonus!?!?!

http://finance.yahoo.com/career-work...Stimulus-Bonus

I didn't know anything about this until I read someone's post over at Kellymom. I immediately check Dh's check from last payday (3-24-09) and it was the same but I do know that as of last Wednesday (3-25) DH's company instituted a brand new payroll system so I'm wondering it this is why.

I know according to that article we "qualify" so I'm anxious to see if next pay check has the increased $$ (4-7-09). I know $20 bucks a week isn't a HUGE amount but if gas stay about were it is now that's DH's gas for the week!!!

Mine worked out to be $67, but I get paid once a month.

I'm not sure how accurate that is though.

Back in Feb I changed my witholding from Married 10 to Married 4. I expected to see LESS money this paycheck.

We got paid last week so I don't think it was in that one. So it'll be in next weeks. $20 a paycheck is $20 a paycheck, you know?

Are we also getting a stimulus like we did last year?

We wont be getting any of it. My husband has been out of work for three months now and cant find work. In fact where he did work let go alot of people and cut everyone's pay in the last month including upper management.

Rob gets paid once a month too and I know his March paycheck didn't change so I'll have to wait til this month's check to see if it went up at all. But any increase will be fine, it'll help pay for the higher gas & grocery prices or go towards a bill!

Col as far as I know I don't think we're getting a separate stimulus refund this year. Of course it's early in the year so that could change too!

Yes, dh got more... I am not sure how much it will really "stimulate" anything, but it does help cover gas, as others has said. It pretty much would almost cover his gas to/from work I think.

I'm pretty sure it all has to be paid back the following year, though... so if you don't normally get a return and have to pay in, you'll be stuck paying that much more....

I don't think you have to repay the actual payment, just any overpayments. DH and I will be paying back around $1000, near as I can figure out.. since he has two jobs, he'll get the credit from both, when he should only get one.

From the yahoo article:
Is There Anything I Need to Watch Out For?

Possibly. Some people could end up getting a larger credit than they're entitled to. That means they'd have to pay back the excess amount when they file their 2009 taxes -- or, if they're getting a refund, their refund would be reduced by the amount they were overpaid.

If that situation is unappealing, a tax filer could act now to reduce the number of withholding allowances he takes on his W4 at work. The fewer allowances he takes, the more tax that is withheld.

The IRS has a calculator online that you can use to figure out how many allowances you should take if you're eligible to receive the credit and don't want to be overpaid -- or to put it another way, don't want to have too little tax withheld.

Those most likely to be overpaid are:

Anyone who holds more than one job. You will get paid the Making Work Pay Credit twice, up to $400 ($800 for a joint filer) from your first employer and up to $400 ($800 for a joint filer) from your second employer.

Joint filers whose spouses work. Each spouse will end up being paid the credit for married couples by each of their employers.

There's a twist, too. Because of the way the withholding tables were set up, each working spouse may be paid up to $600 this year -- instead of up to the $800, Mezistrano said.

In other words, the husband would receive $600 at his job and the wife $600 at her job, for a total of $1,200. Since they're only entitled to $800 total as a couple, that means they would have to pay $400 back to the IRS -- or see their refund reduced by that amount.

He'll get $1200 from both jobs and I'll get $600, for a total of $1800, since we're only supposed to get $800, next year's refund will be reduced by $1000. As I understand it.

So confusing!!!! I hate tax stuff!!!! We just had ours done today- thank God I hire someone to figure mine out!!!! It's tough- especially being "self-employed!"

I think everyone should have to pay the same amount- nice and simple- and my tax guy today agreed! lol!

We're paid biweekly, so it won't show up in mine until a week from tomorrow. I wonder how much it'll be!?

This is what I was afraid of - being over paid & having to owe that money back. I hate tax stuff, but I am going to make sure I change my withholdings.

Yes, I noticed it on my last 2 checks. I get paid 2x a month & it comes out to be $13 more a week. DH has yet to see it reflected in his check.

I work for the state, so I've already seen mine.

Well, I didn't actually notice a difference since I work hourly/OT & so my pay is different every check, but the HR lady emailed everyone and said it would be changing. *lol*

It looks like DH's $11 is about right, considering how they work his paycheck. He ought to end up with $572 in additional pay this year, so at least we won't be over.

This reminds me I need to go change my W-4. Jordan told me to last week and I forgot.

I'm glad that the people who need $$ are going to get it this year. I just hope I don't get screwed over in the end, lol.

I read somewhere that economic studies have found that people are more likely to actually spend the money (rather than save it or use it to pay off bills) if it's just a small amount given regularly, instead of one larger lump sum. So, stimulus.

Yeah, ours works out to be enough to go to kids' night at Buffalo Wild Wings each paycheck, so odds are we'll do that at least once a month

Yup, that's why a tax cut form of stimulus is better than the lump sum we all got last year.
