Default For those that use Paint Shop Pro...

I downloaded the free trial of PSP x3 today, to see if it like it better than Memory Mixer (which I am using now). I haven't tried working with it yet because I don't know where to start, lol I really like the idea of being able to edit my photos and scrapbook all in the same place! Can you do things with PSP, like add drop shadows, for example? And it looks like PSP accepts PSD files (?) Does that mean that any PSD template I download, I will be able to use in PSP?

Well... For my recent layouts I edited all the photos in PSP first. The best way is SMART PHOTO FIX, it usually fixes the photo automatically in the best way. Then I remove the Digital Camera Noice and where necessary, I correct the perspective of buildings.

But e.g. for this photo:

I also added some Time Machine Effects.

I got used to work with templates in Photoshop and I have no experience with using either TIF or PSD in Pain Shop Pro.

HTH!

yep, you can definately add drop shadows and open psd files in paintshop pro. Templates work just fine, though the commands to "clip" papers and what not to the template will be different from photoshop. I use a really old version (psp9) so i wont try to tell you what the commands would be or where to find the drop shadow tool, but its most likely on a toolbar. Im sure someone else will come along with more info.

I've been using PSP since version 8 and currently use X2. It's really a great program for the price. I use lightroom to edit my photos but before I had it I edited all my photos in PSP and always got pretty good results. Once I had tweaked my photos I usually used blend modes for different results.

Like pp said...psd files work fine (TIFF files open flat in PSP) but if the template has like a clipping mask or text path those will not work...it will open and still be usuable just not for those functions.

yeah, it will tell you some features of this file won't work but those are text and shadows, the base template will still be fine. You can also save files in .psd which is handy because PS does not open PSP files. There are a lot of fun photo editing scripts out there for PSP (like actions for PS) and the basic photo edits work very well. I usually work with levels and color balance and then layer modes.

Everyone has already answered, but I use PSP X2 also. I use it for everything accept when I want to use actions by my 4 hens, I love hers and she only makes them for PS & PSE. Otherwise PSP does everything I want it to.

i use PSP since the begining to do my pages and I'm pretty satisfied w/ it and couldn't change to PSCS ( i have it installed too) yet. i tried but couldn't lol
IMO, the only thing that not work AT ALL in PSP is text path (this is why i have PSCS installed here btw).
drop shadows has a lil' bit different configurations but works just fine.
about clipping masks, you can do it 'manually' for your layouts/templates in PSP (lots of work? no thank you haha) or use a GREAT script named "photojenic clip 2 template" (which i use everytime). the thing do the clippings as PSCS in a blink of the eyes.
You can find it in this link -> http://www.digishoptalk.com/boards/m...t-ever-133771/
your PSP life will never be the same after this script installed.

ditto on the script. i had made myself a script that made using templates quicker, and then someone pointed out that one...and well, yea, my way was ridiculously slow in comparrison!
