Default typing in a path in Photoshop

I need help. Whenever I need my journaling to be (inside of) in a certain shape, I draw a path with the pen tool and then I select the type tool and move the cursor inside of the path. My cursor used to change so when I clicked, my text was neatly aligned within the path. But now it doesn't do that anymore! My cursor doesn't change anymore! It does still change when I move it over the edge of the path, but then my text goes around the path, and that's not what I want. I don't know of any changes I made, it always used to work and suddenly it doesn't anymore. Has anyone ever had the same problem?

I've never had that happen and I can't imagine what would cause it. Sorry I couldn't be helpful.

I don't know why that would happen...
a few guesses
Is your path completely closed? If it isn't closed I don't think you would be able to type inside of the path.
Have you played with the text alignment to see if that makes it magically appear? (left justify, right, etc.)
Good luck!

Hm, I always seem to have problems that no one has ever heard of, lol.
Penny, I checked all that but couldn't get it to work. I changed my pen tool settings to drawing a custom shape and then it worked. I just had to delete the shape afterwards. There must be a reason why it isn't working on a path anymore, I just have no clou...

I draw the path, then right click and hit "Make work path", then change to the type tool. Maybe try that?

Kim, I have a text path tutorial posted. I think flipping your path will solve your problem.

That's a great tut, Sheri. Are you referring to the method in the second example of the tutorial? Because the thing I want to do is like in the third example. I've been doing it for a long time and it always worked, but now my cursor won't change anymore when I hover it inside the path. Not always, it does work rarely but I still haven't figured out why that is...
I didn't know about the reverse path thing like you described in the second example! Looks neat, I'm going to try that one day!
