canvas question

I want to adhere some artwork to a canvas I purchased.... normally, I would just order the canvas already printed, but I want a size I can't find. The canvas is 8x16. First question - what should I use to glue it to the canvas? I'm afraid of modge podge because I haven't been successful with it in the past, but I don't know what other options there are. Second question - am I better off getting an actual print on photo paper or getting a color copy like at staples? There's no photo so I'm not worried about how it would turn out, just wondering if thicker/thinner is better?
