This would be how it's pronounced round here, where it's a pretty common last name. So it never occurred to me that others pronounce it differently. Makes me wonder how many other names are wrong in my head

You all realize that people pronounce the "hair clip" 2 different ways, right? So saying you pronounce it like the hairclip isn't really clearing things up. LOL

Well crap it. I've always said it as bear-it in my head. Now I'll have to do another step and correct myself everytime I type out her name in my layout descriptions because

I LOVE JENN'S DESIGNS!

I love all your stuff, Jenn, even though you have just annoyed me by not pronouncing your name the 'right' way

You're totally right. I say it the way the link does, but some people put the emphasis on the first syllable... BAR-et.

This is all making me think of that Mike Meyers and Gwyneth Paltrow movie where she's the flight attendent and he says, "I think she put the em-FAS-is on the wrong sil-AB-le."

hahaha this thread is cracking me up!

Mari - So glad I've been saying your name right! I can't remember WHY I knew how to pronounce it... maybe you've told me before?

Valerie - I love that part of that movie! i cant' remember anything else about it, but that one scene cracks me up.

re: my name - Pritchett is pretty much just like it's written: PRI-chitt (I usually drop that T in the middle when I say it). However, most people insist on adding an "R" to the 2nd syllable, so more often than not, we get "Prichard" (rhymes with Richard). Just a couple weeks ago, I was spelling my name to a lady on the phone, and I said, "That's Pritchett - PRI..." and she finishes with "CHARD?" LOL

Just saw this, but I've been saying it wrong in my head!! lol. It never occured to me that it might be any other way.

My name is pronounced wrong all the time. It's Brienne, and I get BrieAnn or BrieAnnA a lot. I even have gotten Bernie more than a few times. I used to hate my name because of that, but as I've gotten older I like it now. But I switched to be calling Brie in high school when my math teacher called me Bernie Kearney on the first day and it stuck ugh.

when I submit applications, I often include a prn for it. That's probably how you knew.

my last name isn't mispronounced but it is often misspelt - it should be McDonald but I get MacDonald, Mcdonald, Macdonald etc

I've been saying it BEAR-it too. But when I focus on the spelling, the hair clip pronunciation makes more sense.

Now, you should hear the many many different interpretations of MY last name, Marchant.
