Default St. Patrick's Day Plans?

Does anyone have some fun plans to celebrate St. Patrick's Day?

I've got nothing planned, my kids are too old for the leprechaun, I'll make sure we all wear green so there is no pinching and I guess we could go drink some green beer (if I can find low carb green beer) but that is kind of pathetic. So let me share your joy...what are you going to be up to?

We don't have any special traditions for St. Patrick's Day . . . sometimes we do stuff, sometimes we don't. But, that day is a sort of anniversary for our family, so we celebrate that anniversary with what we call What About Bob Day.

You know that scene in the movie where they eat the meal at the vacation house: fried chicken, biscuits, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn on the cob, and salad? Yep. We'll be eating that meal for dinner on St. Patty's Day. That's how we celebrate . . . cause we're just a little bit weird and we like it that way.

I'm running a 5K in support of our local children's hospital. Should be fun!

Work for me, school for Cheyanne, watching the movie Frozen (not because it's St. Pat's though, just because it comes out on DVD that day), and then to bed by 9. LOL - we have never done anything for St. Pat's -we're not remotely Irish and it's never been a "thing" for us.

Lydia - that sounds like a fun tradition! I love that movie!

Kara - Good for you! Is the same hospital Timothy was born at?

My plans include wearing my green blazer to work! ... beyond that, nothing special is lined up.

I'll probably make some Irish coffee, but we don't really do anything for St. Patrick's Day.

We're actually going to a St. Patty's Day party tonight. It should be fun. My friend that's throwing it doesn't do anything half way, so I'm sure it will be totally crazy. She typically decorates the whole house and has a table of themed food. The kids will eat tons of green cupcakes and cookies and the adults will just hang out. I hope it will be fun though.

we use to always dress up and have a special dinner when I was a kid because we have quite a bit of Irish in our hodge podge mix up of genes, but I'm too lazy to make anything special. We'll jsut be having potato soup which isn't irish except that it has potatoes, LOL! And we'll all dress in green

I have some goodies for the leprechaun to leave for L.J. that morning, special pot of gold donuts for breakfast and dinner with a sort of Irish theme (Shepard's pie, shamrock bread sticks, green punch and some kind of green dessert)

At school/work we celebrated on Wednesday AND Thursday. We love St. Patrick's Day around there. Wednesday was a plethora of green snacks for the staff and Thursday was a 'green buffet' for the 2nd graders. My son is a second grader so it was extra special this year to get to share that with him. My kids and I all wore our St. Patty's Day finery to school on Thursday and had a great time. My daughter is in middle school and she said she was the only one dressed up on that day but had fun because everyone kept asking her about her outfit. LOL

Our Spring Break started yesterday so no school on Monday. I plan to make corned beef, Irish soda bread and some sort of potato dish (still working out that one). Then we are making some other fun green food just for kicks. We'll have Reuben's too with the leftover corned beef.

We made a leprechaun trap for my 2nd grader to take to school. He had to leave it at school over break (to see if any of them caught a leprechaun, of course), so we are going to make another one here at home today. I'm sure the leprechauns will prank the kids too, if they don't manage to catch one. They always leave goodies. I think this year we might do rainbow colored pancakes for breakfast.

Every year on the night before St. Patrick's Day we go on a leprechaun hunt after dark. We haven't caught one yet, but we always see signs of them!

Can you tell that St. Patrick's Day is one of our favorite holidays?

We are having a green dinner at home! Green ravioli with herb sauce and green veggies! It's pretty simple.

Making corned beef and cabbage for dinner today because I like it. Other than that, nothing really. My kids don't know about leprechauns or any of that yet, and I'm ok with that. I'm sure it'll enter next year with Kindergarten.
