Default 1 year later my quilt is finished...

Anyone who doesn't say that a quilt is a labor of love from start to finish has never made one. Because this thing took me about a year to finish. I went to a quilting class to learn how to do a Log Cabin quilt and spent the entire class cutting my fabric strips and then sewing the strips together. I was able to complete one whole quilt block and then spent another week finishing the rest of my blocks. Another week later I was able to do my borders etc. Then in Dec I found someone to stipple it for me and then this work of love sat for another month after 2 different friends said they would help me bind it but that never happened. Then in Feb we got orders to Japan and that took on a whole life of itself. I met a wonderful new friend here in Japan who so willingly gave me 8 hours of her time in the span of 2 days to guide me through the rest of the process. So without further ado, here is my finished labor of love:

I am pretty proud of it!!!!!!

Oh wow that is sooo PRETTY!!! I absolutely love quilts and want to start making them. I just go JoAnnes Fabrics and look at all the pretty fabrics they have in the quilting section and wish I had the time and money to make one!!

That is gorgeous Jami! You did a great job for a first quilt girl! Amazing! I for one, definitely understand the labor of love that quilts truly are. I have made about 80 of them and rarely give them away. It's just too hard to after I have spent so much time and money on them, because they aren't cheap to make either.

So, are you ready to start your next one?

Wow - it looks amazing!! Great work!

And you're right about the work that goes into one - anyone who says that has never made one!

Great job on that! It's very pretty!

I have 3 quilts that my great grandmother made and they are priceless to me as I'm sure yours will be to your family

Wow! Great job on your first quilt! I'm totally in love with fabric and play around with sewing projects all all the time. I've made smaller baby-size quilts, but I have a couple of larger projects that I hope to have finished eventually. I imagine you feel *great* after completing a project of that size! way to go!

Beautiful!

My MIL is an avid quilter and has made one for each of my kids. They treasure them and I appreciate the love that she's put into them.

It's gorgeous Jami! I've never made a quilt (it's on my list of things to learn!), but I know what a labor of love handmade gifts are! I'm a crosstitcher and it takes me hundreds of hours to finish one!!

I'm still working on one from October 2001 Mind you... I have started and completed 4 during the time I've been working on that one, lol. I keep putting it down and forgetting about it, haha!

Someone told me I should sell them. I laughed at them! Could you imagine how much it would cost them to make it worth your time?!?!?!?

I am very impressed! I like the border you did on the outside. I've made a few quilts and really enjoy the process - but it is a lot of work! I'm so impressed you did pillow shams to match.....

I tried to make a small quilt once, and when Joel saw it, he said "That will never hang in my house." He finally said I could hang it in the closet, which I did, but then I realized I am not detailed enough to be a quiltmaker. It was so freeing to accept that.

I am way impressed with yours ,though!

LOL OMGosh yes!! They are beautiful when you finish them though. I also love doing candlewicking and embroidery. Been doing all three since I was really young. Probably less then 10 years old I think (my mom was manager of a craft store and would bring me home stuff that was "damaged" IE opened, missing a needle etc)

LOL. I have one 10 years old that I still haven't finished! It's the quilting step that always gets me stuck.
