Default Stocking Stuffer Ideas

I was thinking about the "what you want for Christmas" thread and how everyone was talking about a well stuffed stocking...I've got my in-laws coming for Christmas for the first time ever and I realize I need to put together a stocking for them.

So give me some ideas! What are your favorite things to get in your stockings?

What do you put in husband's and kids stockings that have been a hit?

Mine are pretty basic I think - for the kids, there is always an apple and an orange, and then mostly a bunch of candy. The girls get things like gloss, eye shadow, perfume, bubble bath. The boys get things like hot wheels, small figurines. Both get things like stickers, mini puzzles, etc. For Chris, he gets the fruit/candy too, socks, underwear (haha again no in-laws), gift cards for fast food (he has to run and grab lunch every day at work), cool keychains, mens body wash, cologne, hot hands. For in-laws, I would suggest some nice chocolates, gourmet cocoa mixes, gourmet jams/jellies. I'm not too creative.

Following along for ideas.

We try not to put in sweets. We always put in new tooth brushes. Things we've done- watches, beanies(cap), new pencils, erasers, school supplies stuff, play dough, chapstick, nail polish, new brush, wallet, camera remote(was for me), insoles, iphone case....

These are great! Keep them coming.

Anyone ever get something really good in there stocking? I got a nice amethyst ring once. I always point out to hubby that there is room in there for a necklace box, a ring box and for a set of matching earrings. LOL!

last year my husband got me:

ponytail holders
nail polish
cards (just regular playing cards)
socks (like fluffy soft socks)
small bottles of my fave. perfume
lip gloss/chapstick
hand sanitzers
note pads for my purse
markers/pens
my fave. candies

for my kids I usually get:
DVD
toothbrush
Axe body spray for boys/small bottle perfume for girls
ponytail holders for my daughter
card game
small toy like brain teaser type toys
body wash for guys & girls (usually Axe for guys & Dove or Caress for girls)
makeup for my daughter
headphones
DS accessories for my son (he loses the stylus ALOT)
candies

That is the usual list of stuff I get them. I usually buy the small stuff through the year and get a lot of it at the Dollar Tree so I dont spend a lot of money on it.

My mom always puts a christmas ornament in mine and whatever other little things she finds. My dad tends to go with food or car things in mine.

We had a tradition growing up that anyone who was naughty got socks and underwear. Well, we are all a little bad during the year - so we always got a little bit of socks and underwear and usually in our stocking. My youngest specifically requested I not put underwear or socks in her stocking this year - LOL! She said to just wrap it and leave it in her drawer.

I spent two hours at Target today and got my stocking shopping (and a few other things) done!

For my FIL I got -
chocolate covered almonds
a small pack of bungee cords
car air freshener
Locktight (super glue)
a little flash light
Gum

For MIL -
nail polish
mini hand lotion
lint roller
Nivea lip balm (it has a simmer to it)
car air freshener
mints
A cute little pair of grey striped socks
candy

For my kids I just needed a few things to add to what I already have -
10 yo is getting -
Sock bun kit
Hair ties
beef jerky
soft, individually wrapped peppermints (tradition and by request)
Little bottle of lotion
earrings
Candy
Spin brush
whitening toothpaste (she has really yellow teeth and the dentis says it's okay)

For 14 yo
Bobby pins
Soft individually wrapped peppermints (tradition)
Lint roller
Altoids mini tin
Reese's peanut butter trees
Cover girl Baby lip gloss
eyeliner
eye shadow
Tide To Go
Spin brush

For hubby - who has a giant stocking (really, really big!)
Grill scrubber
Air freshener for his car
lint roller
Altoids
Shout wipes
Grill Spatula (yes - it will fit)
Lighter for the grill
iTunes GC
beef jerky
Face lotion to use after shaving
a new razor
Snickers Santa
Almonds - habenanero BBQ
and I hope that fills it...it's new this year thanks to my Step Dad.

I gave DH a stocking list and I have on it
Mascara
Yankee Tarts
Hair ties
Thick hand/foot cream
Little notebooks for my purse
Tinted lip balm

new wallets (yes because a 7 yr old and 5 yr old NEEDS a wallet)
underwear

beyblades
candy
toothbrush

Hubby will get:
a really cool book called Devotional for the sports guy or something like that. Its a book about LSU and different stories and then has devotionals to go along with each chapter. He is not a religious person but the LSU stories he will love.

I should start by saying we have huge stockings that my DH's Grandma knitted for us.

Harper got 3 rattle type toys & a rubber ducky that looks like a reindeer, and I'll probably add a sleeper for him.

Keira
Lalaloopys holiday doll
Perwinkle doll
earrings
bubble bath
watch
toothbrush
gummy candy
reeses pieces in a candy cane
a pair of Pj's

Cooper
toothbrush
star wars figures (the cute playskool ones)
snowglobe ball thing that lights up, because he saw it and freaked
another squishy ball thing
bubble bath
a pair of pj's
gummy candy
reeses pieces in a candy cane

Sean (we're only exchanging stockings this year since we just replaced our TV) $100 limit for us.
I went to world market and got him a mini pack of hot sauces & Tabasco chocolate
some other candy
A new travel coffee mug
A video game
and a small travel ipod dock

My kids both have huge stockings, too. She'll end up with nail polish, eye makeup, pens and notebooks (because she shares my office supply fetish), probably socks and a few gift cards, like iTunes and Panera. He'll get gum, socks, iTunes, a video game or a CD. Any other gifts I get that will fit, I put in the stockings too. I always end up with SO much more than I ever thought in those stockings once I get going.

The dog gets treats, the cats get catnip. There isn't anything in my stocking unless I put it there.

We only do stockings for kiddos here, so Zach usually gets:

-DVD (while Netflix has almost everything, we have DVDs for when we're in the car and can't Netflix)
-1-2 books (usually seasonal)
-Some Candy canes and small chocolates, which I then take and give him in small doses
-Sticker books (Walmart's scrapbooking section has some kid-themed ones, like 200 stickers for $2!)
-Anything cool I've found lately in the dollar section at Target, so usually things like a Slinky or other small toys
-Chapstick
-Often something musical (maracas, finger cymbals, etc, have all been stocking gifts)
-Socks or new slippers

Any adult stockings I've given in the past, I consider the recipient's needs. Like, if I were doing one for the BF, I'd slip in hot hands because his toes get cold in his steel-toed boots and work, and he is ALWAYS begging for them. For my dad, I'd include Jerky, which is a favorite snack of his. My mom would get some new gloves because her hands get so cold and her gloves are worn.

are they coffee / tea drinkers? if they have a keurig, you could always fill up a stocking with a variety of k-cup flavors.

a bottle of wine?
