Default How long have your macbook lasted?

I'm having battery issues with my macbook pro (2015 model) and as some of you might have seen I'm thinking of replacing the battery or just replacing the whole thing and upgrading.

I'm just curious to how long a macbook should last. The last one I had was a macbook and it lasted 10 years (although the battery only lasted 7 or so). This one is only 4 years soon, and it works. Just the battery going out of power much faster than it should and it's huffing and puffing as it gets hot from the constant charging.
How long have yours lasted?

I bought my first MBP in 2010 and my son is still using it. I had a new HD installed for $300 (much cheaper than buying new).

My current machine is a 2015 MCP.

You can get a new battery for $60 if that's your only issue.

I was quoted $460 for a new battery by Apple!

Since your machine is not under warranty, you don't have to have it replaced by Apple. You can go to any local repair shop or buy the parts yourself and do it. So much cheaper!

I am aware, sadly it would still put a dent in my wallet to get the battery replaced even with someone not Apple. And I'm sadly not capable of doing it myself as I have NO clue how to do anything inside a computer.

Oh didn't Kristin (KCB) just go through this with her stuff?

I don't have a mac so I can't weigh in. But I can say I'm really sorry you are having such issues with yours

In your original post you mentioned your were considering replacing your machine, so a battery replacement is going to be cheaper no matter what route your go (even with Apple). If I were you, I'd repair it in a heartbeat. Most battery replacement kits come with videos and detailed instructions, but even if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself and you need to take it in, it's still WAYcheaper than starting from scratch. I replaced the entire HD for "only" $300 (it's like a brand new laptop).

I'm so sorry you're having difficulties, Christine!!
I've always used PCs, so I'm no help.

For $170 I can have the battery replaced. And for the $460 I had to spend on a new battery by Apple I can fix my water damaged macbook air 11" and voila I have a brand "new" macbook air for travel and the kids to use for school. Much better than the old dinosaur macbook I had initially intended to fix up for them. It has a whole 100gb harddrive and a shitty battery.
