Default if you could have been born/grew up in any era

which would it be and why?

(lets pretend the really bad stuff didn't happen though - if you were wanting to grow up in the 30's lets just pretend the great depression didn't happen etc :P)

I sometimes think that I should have gone to school for sociology.. I sure am fascinated by people.. lol

I would love to have been a Southern Belle... Those giant dresses and plantation homes fascinate me completely. But I think I'd prefer an air conditioner. lol.

Definitely the 80s! I was born in 85 but I think I should have been a teen in the 80s.

First, I have to make the caveat that I love when I grew up, and I would not change it for the world. If I had a choice, it would ALWAYS be my first choice, to be born when I was (88) and grow up through the 90s and be growing up still now.

BUT. If I were to choose. (And it's funny you asked- I was discussing this same topic with someone who drunk texted me last night- don't ask). I would have grown up in the Edwardian era (think Titanic-- 1900s to 1915ish, the dates vary depending on who you ask). Yes, beautiful. I love so much about that time. Also, I'd only want to live in that time if I were filthy rich. Haha

1920s. (Well, being a teen/young adult then) I think I'd have fit in well with that whole getting married at 19 and having 4 kids by 25.

The 1940's to be sure... I love the music, the fashion, the spirit of the era... my guest bedroom (pre kiddo) was decorated in 1940's decor... I have a bunch of awesome stuff from my great aunt, along with my grandparent's bedroom set, and other things I've picked up here and there at antique stores.

If I could have my technology, I would've loved to grow up with my grandma's generation. She as born in the 20s and married her sweetheart in the 40s. The 40sare my fave.... Their style was awesome. My grandpa was an engineer for the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII and my grandparents met at a dance and it was love at first sight! The classic WWII romance!

I'm thinking the 1950's with the poodle skirts and bobbi socks. It seemed like the most innocent era in our history. Victorian England fascinates me, but I have to have running water and electricity! lol

Hmmm, that's a tough one. I love the 50s fashion, but the rest of that era is pretty much, thanks but no thanks.
England under Queen Victoria sure was an interesting place to be. She reformed so many aspects of public life. And I looove historic fashion in general. But I think what I would like a lot being upper class at that time, you really had sooo much time! To read, enjoy arts, educate yourself, go for walks, riding...
Then again, the time during the British Regency (think Jane Austen...) was also interesting. But as my body shape won't look too good in high waist dresses, I will accompany Jen and Kate during their rides.

I would have LOVED to be a British colonialist. I mean imagine being part of ruling the world when the sun never set on your kingdom. {sigh} I would have made such a good colonialist...I don't mind the heat, I'm nice to the locals and I love to sit around and tell other people what to do. : )

I think I would have loved to been an adult in the late 50's/early 60's. The whole Dirty Dancing Era, Shag, Grease, they were all set around then.

This is a tough one for me to answer.. I wonder if 50 years from now people will look back on this generation and think of as anything as classic and nostalgic? I don't know why but everything from years ago appeared to have so much more meaning than the things now.. is that true do you think?

Anyways I really don't know the answer other than I would love to go back as allie in the 1940's from the notebook.. haha

Oooo, I'd love to live in Regency England and live like one of Jane Austen's heroines! Plus, I do like those high-waisted dresses and putting up the hair in ringlets

I have 3 - WWII era England, mid-1850-1890's in America's heartland (Laura Ingalls Wilder style), Colonial/Revolutionary America/post-Constitutional era, and medieval England...but not as a peasant

I guess that's 4. There are more, but those are my top 4.

I'll take your last 2! Those were my favorite areas of history to study while I was getting my degree. Even wrote my thesis on revolutionary america But definitely not as a peasant!

I love history so I really wish I could time travel and visit several eras. But if I had to choose just one I'd love to experience Victorian or Edwardian England if I was really well off. And while I'm dreaming, I'll throw in an early invention for penicillin; those people had to suffer way too much from simple illnesses for my taste.

This is funny ... I just told my mom last week that I was born too SOON ... as much of a gadget girl that I am ... I wish I had been born so I would be growing up RIGHT NOW (age of my kids) so that I could have the chance to go to school to learn all this technology and it be a major part of my life and work ...

I am getting ready to take classes at the local hackerspace that we belong to on 3d printing, arduinos, electronics, etc. ... just hoping I still have the stuff upstairs to comprehend all of this ... without slowing down the entire class! I really want to learn about programming arduinos and such ...

... so I think I was born at least 30 years too early ...

Ditto Darcy. I would have loved to have been BFFs with Laura Ingalls Wilder. Life was so much simpler then: everyone had the same beliefs, everyone worked hard, they had friggin' spelling bees as an activity for the whole town on Saturday nights!

Well, I have to say that I liked growing up in the decade that I did (basically the 70s) but that's because it's what I know, KWIM?

I have always loved the fronteir era though - I read tons of books about that time period when I was growing up. Think covered wagons, Laura Ingalls' era, etc. I wouldn't be the one wearing a dress though, I'd be the Annie Oakley type - buckskins for riding my horse while scouting out the area - I could never be one of the women left back at the homestead. I love to live off the land and make whatever I can myself, so I think it would have been a cool era to grow up in.
