Default I miss Christmases when my kids wanted toys!

Anyone else feel me on this?

The kids wrote their Christmas wishlists and it pretty much goes like this... Birkenstocks, high top Vans, Posca Paint Pen set, iPad Pro & apple pencil, gaming laptop, Oculus VR gaming thingie, etc. etc.

$$$$$

And... there goes a tree filled with lots of gifts under it! So. Boring.

Not really I love shopping fashion and technology so my kids are the perfect ages to shop for now.

I'm there too. At almost 17 and 18, my girls hardly want anything. My older one still hasn't given me a wishlist. I do kinda miss the toys, but I don't miss staying up half the night to assemble the larger play sets.

Even though I love gaming and tech stuff, it costs a lot of money so it doesn't fill the tree underneath like when they wanted lots of toys. So I totally get that.

Right?

Cole's list includes things that I don't even understand and had to ask him to elaborate...Steel Series Rival 3, Corsair mm 300 and Steel Series Arctis 3. I would assume those are games or something. Nope a mouse, mouse pad and headset.

I have a 10 yr old so we still have a few toys here and there and my sister has a 3yr old so I have fun buying for her but yes. I have a 16 yr old though and yes...SD cards, camera, green screen?!?! Crazy you tuber stuff...it isn't as fun as seeing them come out to a fun train table or doll house.

Yep, mine just wanted money for his new Xbox. He asked for nothing else. Not fun, kid.

Yeah, tell me about it. My 13yo had a lot of those items on her list, too! While I totally love the wrapping and the joy, and while I know we're privileged to be able to buy even one of those items (especially this year), I don't want to raise spoiled kids, ya know?

Harper still wants toys, Cooper we're just on the border, he was hard this year, he wants nerf guns, and we did get him a battle bots arena thing him & Harper can play together with.

Keira is fun to buy for. I spent those most I ever had on Christmas this year and I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around that I'll have to spend several hundred dollars on a single gift for one kid eventually. LOL!

I'm with you! Toys are so much more fun to buy. My 17 year old wants cash and a gaming headset. My 11 year old wants cash and a video game. At least for her I can add in a few things that are fun to buy, like Bath and Body Works. My 14 year old was the most fun to buy for, since I got to pick out a few jigsaw puzzles and cubes (like Rubik's cubes) instead of cash and gift cards. At least he'll still give me the excited little kid reaction, which I definitely won't get from the oldest and youngest!

I know what you mean! Our youngest is 10, so we did buy him some toys-mostly John Deere tractors, but as we were walking through the toys isles, I had to stop and see and the cute baby toys and dolls and stuffed animals that we no longer buy. My older two kids are 16 and 13, so they want more expensive things, too.

Our grandkiddos are young so there will be lots of gifts for them.
These are the lists our 2 oldest made for their parents. Their Mama deciphered the lists and added the wording :-)

YES!!! With 4 kiddos, we used to keep our xmas budget at around $100 to $150 per kid. Now, it's so hard to keep that budget.

This year, we felt bad since everything was cancelled... graduations, graduation parties, birthday parties, vacations..... so we blew that budget big time.

Mine are also at that same space, but I am a firm believer that everyone (no matter what their age) deserves to feel like a 'kid at christmas', so even though they are just into tech, and pricy things that mean less boxes, I still give them a piece of their childhood.... a lego set for their vast collection, old favorite simple toys in their stockings like yo-yos, slime, card games etc. these little things always bring back memories and stories of christmas' past. <3

I have a 6 year old girl who wants all the things... and a 9 year old boy who asked for "a PlayStation or a VR machine" (not getting either of those, but at least he said "or", right?? LOL).

My mom wraps lots of little things... if there's a pack of socks, she'll split them and wrap them separately. She mails gifts now or brings them in a suitcase, but when I was younger, she'd put small stuff in bigger boxes to give the tree that nice full look!

My kids are still young and want all the toys but I know one day it will be the same as you and it will be so expensive to please them

My son is a junior in college. His wish list is links, and that is the way it's been since he was in high school. I don't buy clothes for him because he is picky, so those are usually in the links. Those are pricey. One year there was a Patagonia fleece jacket that was well over $100. Last year his first choice was a popular little video camera for I think $400. LOL! He said, "Well, it IS a WISH list."

Although he makes it easy for me to shop, I do miss shopping for toys.

I have 4 teenage girls. I don't quite miss the toys. My girls asked for clothes, makeup, jewelry but also books, games, stuffed animals etc.

Even when our girls were little, they didn't just get toys. We tried to do a toy, some type of clothing item, a book or game etc.

One day you'll have grandkids and be able to buy those toys once again!

Another option, if you really miss toy buying, consider donating some toys to Toys for Tots or another organization. Especially this year, the donations are taking a hit! My Senior is trying to organize one through school, but with schools shut down, they are running into issues!

My girls are tweens and I do NOT miss buying toys. If I ever feel the urge, I buy some and donate to charity as well. They started putting really expensive electronics on their wish lists a couple years ago, so we used their allowances to show them how much and how long they would need to save to buy ONE of those things. They stopped asking for them real quick once they realized that $800 for one ipad wasn't appropriate.

Well, I guess I should have specified what I meant for "toys"... mine aren't asking for stuffed animals, books, board games, or anything I could buy in a toy section at a department store.

I miss shopping for the kids at Toys R Us with hubby. We made it a date night.

Mine have been grown for a while, and now I get Christmas lists emailed to me with links. LOL! I'm glad for the links...makes it easier.

I do have grandbabies now, and love shopping for them, but I have to do it on Amazon since they're still in CA.

My daughter is three and I bought all her Christmas for under 100.00. Then I felt bad because she had a lot but it was cheap. So I bought her some bigger things bahhahaha. My oldest (11) was born expensive. My middle child (7) asked for rainbow color duct tape, sticky notes, whoopie cushion, nerf gun, robe etc. The oldest breaks me every time. I did refuse to buy a new game console. The price is just ridiculous!
