Default OMGosh so upset

My daughter came home crying tonight because her boyfriend broke up with her 2 weeks before prom. She has already bought her dress and shoes and taken two days off of work before prom for getting her nails done and getting everything ready and then took the day off for prom. She even paid for both tickets already. She is totally devastated of course and is talking about just taking the dress and shoes back to the store and just not going. I really would like to tell him what a douchebag move that is!! Why do guys have to do crap like that though? Ughhh.

I did not particularly like him before today but stayed out of it because he had not done anything really bad but now I defenitely dont like him. I think her crying was more that she had done so much in preparation for prom then that she really cares alot about him because they have broken up four times now since November and she was never really this upset. I had a bad feeling he was going to do this but you know didnt want to upset her by saying much about it.

Ditto she should totally still go and hang out with the girls or even ask a nice looking kid she knows doesn't have a date and just go and have fun! Who's says you have to be in love with someone to go to Prom just go! I wish I had gone. Tell her she doesn't want to regret not going when she is a bitter 30 year old woman hahaha

Grrrr just really frustrated with him and this situation....I did tell her that though. I told her if she decides to not go to prom then me and her would do something really special and she could even invite some of her friends who are not going to go to prom. Suggestions I had were: spend the day at Islands of Adventure, rent a hotel room down on the beach and spend the day at the beach then rent a bunch of her kind of movies(she likes scary movies) and have popcorn and junkfood for dinner and sleep in, go get pampered and do a day at the mall, or go to this country dance place she wants to go to so bad called Cowboys. I just HATE seeing her so upset. I know none of those will really make up for her disappointment but I know we would have alot of fun and she would have something to keep her mind off of what she was missing that night.

I'd definitely say go with a cutest boy and have the best time right in front of that jerk, but I'm a brat so my advice might not be the best! Anyway, I love your idea of having a girl night out somewhere fun and special, definitely a good way to create great memories despite the stupidity of this... (don't know enough bad words in english to express what I really think of her ex).

Bless her heart! That's just about the worst thing a boy can do at that age. What a great mom you are for helping her and coming up with alternatives if she decides she doesn't want to go.

Poor thing-Is she old enough to attend Prom without him? I know that here in our town you have to be a Junior or a Senior...If she is then GO! You can never get those memories back-sitting out might be something she will regret forever!
Give her a big hug from me...and tell her-GO! Enjoy yourself-there is nothing quite like being a Princess for a night!

What a jerk! I'd kick my son if he did that!

Good for you for showing her there are fun alternatives if she decides not to go! When I was a senior only couples went to prom. My BF was away at school so I didn't have a date and didn't want to go alone. Another GF who had the same problem went to a local carnival / rodeo. We made our own special memories and had a good time.

I really feel for her, that age is so hard anyway with out your boyfriend being a prick!

Boys are stupid!!

I have to say though - it is not just boys that do this. My best friend in high school dumped her BF a couple weeks before Prom just like this. They still went because they had everything ready but you could tell that he was really uncomfortable. I felt sorry for him. And now...That guy is now my husband is she is no longer my best friend.

Does she have any other guy friends that she could go with. Sometimes it is more fun to just go with friends anyway!

OMGosh! This just hocks me off!! Why do boys do this kind of crap? I do agree with Shannon - she should just go - maybe with a bunch of gal pals that don't have dates and have a total blast! She can never get this time back - she should just go and have tons of fun!

she is 18/this is her senior prom. Her boyfriend did the same thing last year right before prom but at least she did not have everything bought last year (this was a different boyfriend though and he had two deaths in the family right before prom so it was a little different situation as well. His breaking up with her I can kinda understand. At least he felt bad about it and they stayed friends afterwards)

Tell her to go anyways. Not with him, but with a group.

My BF at the time broke up with me a week or so before the prom. We went together anyways, had a great time until he told me he was seeing the school slut. A bunch of my friends were there - so I ditched him, had a good cry @ prom and ended up dancing with another boy at the end of the night. That boy is now my husband of 8 years. We've been together ever since Prom.

I got stood up for my junior prom. The NIGHT of my junior prom. My sister hadn't found a date, and was going with friends, so she went with me.
It sucked... but my mom's best friend's son beat up my "date" that ditched me later Bad, but.... made me smile a little.

I probably would have had a better time at the prom if I'd just gone with my girlfriends! I did have a date, but he was just a friend and it was kinda awkward.

Aww Stephanie that is sweet!! (not the first part but the second) I just talked to her and she is feeling alot better and is going regardless of whether she has a date although she did ask a boy to go and he said he would go but does not have the money for a ticket but since she already has a ticket she said he could have the one she bought so now all that he has to do is get the ok to go from his parents and get the ok from the school. (they cant have any obligations and have to have a 2.0 GPA before tehy are approved to go)

What a jerk!!! His loss though! Wasn't it you that posted the prom dress thread, and your daughter had that gorgeous white/green dress?

If she's taking 2 days to get pampered, she's going to look STUNNING in that dress! She should go and show him what he's missing!

yes that was me!! I bought her these beautiful satin shoes with a tiny little circle of clear cems in the middle of the front of the shoe. They are all strappy with about 1 1/2 heel (im so bad with size though maybe more/maybe less) She does look so pretty in it too. I am so glad she decided to go despite him. I think her friends had alot to do with that today. He does not go to her school though so he most likely wont see her there.

One of my "good friends" was going to take me as I had broken up with my boyfriend awhile before hand. I got dressed, fixed my hair and waited and he never came. I was SO pissed... and then I just cried and was too upset to go. Looking back, I wish I would have gone- even though I'd been to a few before, I let "my friend" ruin my night.

Tell her to go- take a friend and show him what he missed out on! Hugs to her!

I think she just felt so upset because it happened her sophmore year and her boyfriend who was a senior broke up with her in March right before prom. He said that it was a stressful time in his life and he did not want to have a girlfriend because he could not handle that along with all the other changes.

The next year she was a junior and her boyfriend was a senior and he broke up with her in February (it was Friday 13th actually because they were supposed to go see the new Jason Vorhees movie). His aunt and one of his grandparents had just passed away and he was graduating and kinda slipped into a depressive state so that one was understandable. They are still friends but he is in college now.

Now with this guy he has broken up with her three times before this time. The last time was valentines day.

Oh gosh it just gets so much better. Her good friend told her today he called her and was talking about my daughter really bad and asked her out after trashing my daughter. Yea so glad she is not going out with him.
