Jodi and anybody else @ Ft Hood
Keeping you and your families and friends in my thoughts..what a horrible tragedy today. I know how close knit families are in military communities and am just praying for their safety. Just praying for some peace

We are ok here. It's been an emotional, scary afternoon, and I think it's going to be difficult around here in the days and weeks ahead.

thoughts and prayes to everyone there
...the saddest part was he was a Doctor, Psychatrist{sp?}...when people say they do not want to deploy, most times they are not just doing it for the hell of it...the military really needs to buckle down and listen to people when they say they can't deploy or have something going on to keep them from deploying...I've been there and I can tell you there were ALOT of people that the Army sent on deployment {and not to bag the Army, it was just where we were} that should NOT have been there for pshyciatric reasons, health reasons and many other reasons! They just need to LISTEN and not just asume "we are sending a body and that is all that matters"....sorry to go on, but I feel strongly about this~ |

Well I was in class all day so I'm only really now reading up on what happened but I think shock, disbelief, anger, confusion and total heartbreak pretty much sums up how I'm feeling at the moment.
It's weird because I haven't been to Ft Hood and I don't really know anyone from there (well other than that we've had a huge influx of people from there coming here since June) but the whole incident still feels incredibly personal. If it could happen there, how do we know if any of the bases are safe right now? And worse how do you know who you can trust if it's one of your own? Post is supposed to be a safe place. I mean, people choose to live there because they say it makes them feel safer and then something like this happens, and I don't know. I think I'm kind of relieved at the moment that I don't live on post and my DH is not anywhere near here. More than anything, my heart just breaks for all those families that had to be told today that their soldier wasn't coming home. We all know there's a possibility of that when they're deployed or even to a lesser extent, when they're out training. But I don't think anyone ever thinks that their soldier might not come home when they just went to work like normal. I just can't even imagine how hard that would be and especially for a reason that seems so completely senseless. And I totally agree about the mental health issue. I think a huge part of the problem is that it doesn't fit into the whole "macho man" attitude of the Army. There's still a big stigma attached to getting help and while they do try to tell you that help is available, I'm sure a majority of people who need help don't seek it out. This is just so sad... All the families of Fort Hood are in my thoughts. How scary to feel like you aren't even safe on a military base.
