Default Let's talk about the olympics!!

First - Sarah I hope i'm not wrecking a QOTD lol

I've always been into the olympics - always. My first memory of the olympics is the 88' olympics in Calgary and I remember watching figure skating and watching Elizabeth Manley skate....

fast forward to today and this is the first olympics that I haven't been gearing up for or all that excited about what is wrong with me?

Anyways.. are you into the olympics? do you have a preference- winter vs summer? fav sport? fav athlete? are you an olympic athlete in disguise? :P

Nooo, not at all! It's so fun to have you join me!

Same here! I LOVE big games like the olympics. I love watching opening ceremonies and statistics etc...

But like you, I haven't watched a lot of it this time around. Not sure what's wrong with me either. Lol.

I think part of it for me is seeing how in this generation things don't seem.. as "fair" in the sports? I know sports aren't fair but it's so hard when you see athletes who are being sponsored and earning $$ on advertising and able to afford training compared to those in countries where those options just aren't there.

AND then on the flip side there are those athletes representing their countries on their shoulders and the pressure must be astronomical .

I haven't even thought about the Olympics this year. I hardly even knew they were going on until someone mentioned it the other day. It's strange.

I will say that I've never been a huge fan of the winter Olympics. I much prefer summer events like gymnastics, swimming and diving.

Men's gymnastics is my favorite. I really admire their... passion for the sport.

My kiddo is way more into the Olympics than I am. I do like the winter ones best because more of the sports I can get into watching... track and field is so boring to me. Haha

I agree with you, Kristen, about the money and deals many of these people have... I think it should be more for the every man than the professionals. I also am puzzled how you can compete for a county that you weren’t born there, nor do you train/live there... or just because you may have born there, but adopted as a baby and lived in the US for your whole life, now compete for your birth country?

I usually like watching the opening ceremony but we don't have regular tv so I haven't watched. I enjoy watching ice skating but I get bored after a few.

We don't have cable so I'm not able to watch it while it's being televised, but I love going back and watching the figure skating and gymnastics. I wanted to do either figure skating or gymnastics so bad when I was a kid!

I love the olympics!!! My family is more so-so except the hockey- we're a hockey family! We actually just got home from my son's hockey tournament, where we watched a lot of olympics in the hotel during down time!

I love watching Olympics, both winter and summer. Even when I don't have time to sit down and watch, TV is always on with Olympics program on.

I really miss Bob Costas hosting Olympics....

are you into the olympics?
sadly this year because I'm sick, I don't right care about much on tv. We also don't have cable, so it's making a little difficult to see things. We are heavily relying on the news updating us with information.

do you have a preference- winter vs summer?
I tend to like winter, but my family likes summer better

fav sport?
Winter - Ice Skating
Summer - Gymnastics

fav athlete?
Anyone who strikes my fancy

are you an Olympic athlete in disguise?
Oh no. Far from being any kind of athlete in the sports-world!

I am OBSESSED with the Olympics! It seriously makes my heart so happy. My first real Olympics memories are the 1994 Lillehammer games when there was all the Nancy Kerrigan/Tonya Harding drama and the 1996 Atlanta games when the U.S. women's gymnastics team took gold for the very first time. It was SO exciting!

The only downside is that I get way too invested and have a hard time getting anything else done while the Olympics are on (Just ask me how many pages I've scrapped this week ).

If I had to choose, I think I prefer the summer games just slightly over the winter ones, just because swimming and gymnastics are my favorite events to watch, although I do love figure skating in the winter games. Oh, and my new favorite event to watch is the halfpipe. Those competitors are ridiculous and sooo much fun to watch! PLEASE someone make us an Olympics-themed kit!!

I used to love to watch the Olympics but I don't seem to have the time for it these days. Truthfully, I barely watch TV any more. Too many other things I would rather be doing.
