Default PSE Question

I have PSE 11 for Mac and it has this really annoying quirk where once I save a PSD document I can’t resize or rotate an element without a white box appearing around it-the background is no longer transparent. Does that happen on other versions of PSE? Might need to update just to fix that glitch!

I have PSE13 and I don't have that issue. I also don't use a Mac so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Also, I save all of my layouts as a .tif file and not a .psd.

I use PSE15 on a PC, and save as .tif like Carrie (I like to be able to see the thumbnail). I've never experienced that.

Hopefully someone who uses a Mac will have an answer for you

I use PSE 2018 on a Mac and have used other versions in the past. I've never had anything like that happen and I save as PSD files.

Hmmm. Now I'm going to have to do more research to find out if it's a Mac thing or a version 11 thing or a PSD thing!

This is what I get when I open a PSD file after its been closed. I thought I read about others having this problem but it was years ago. Hmmmm....
And It's PSE 13, not 11.

I hope you find the solution soon, Cindi. I use iMac but I don't use PSE so I can't really help on it, sorry.

That definitely doesn't happen to me. I hope you get it sorted.

I've had it happen to me, so you are not alone. I've updated to PSE 2019 and it doesn't happen anymore. If I remember correctly it has something to do with smart objects and/or how you put elements onto your page. I think I couldn't drag something from the photo bin onto the page, but drag it by putting the cursor on the element in the main window and then onto the tab of the page you are making, waiting until the page opens and then onto the layout. I hope this makes sense.

Thanks so much! I wondered if maybe I was doing something "wrong" somehow! I was beginning to feel like I was losing my mind. Can you drag objects to a page in PSE 19?

Yes, in Preferences -> General there is a box to "Disable Smart Objects". That way when you drag from the Photo bin it doesn't create a smart object. I had PSE 13 before and there was no setting that would disable them.
