I need a new book series!
Any recommendations?
I've done Twilight, Harry Potter, and just finished reeading all the Shopaholic books! LOL! I am looking for another good series to get into, doesn't have to be fantasy-ish, just something with a good plot line (and nothing horror/scary) is all I care about! TIA!

I'm about 4 or 5 books into the House of Night Series. Another YA vampire series...I like it!

I never read! I read Twilight, that was the last series I read, and the last book I read was My Sister's Keeper. I am hoping to get some time to relax over Christmas and do some reading, so I'd love to see what everyone is recommending!

I'm reading the Sookie Stackhouse series right now and LOVE it. Just enough drama, sex, and it's not too "vampire-y" for me.

Undead & Unwed by Mary Janice Davidson. It's the first in another vampire series. Very very funny bunch of books. I think there are 8 in the series, with the titles are starting Undead and..

I love Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. Absolutely hysterical, and there are like 15 of them out now. Really quick reads, but great for a laugh.

I highly recommend the Mark of the Lion series by Francine Rivers. I just finished the third (last) book and am so sad it's over. It is so so so good!

I REALLY loved the Mortal Instruments series (City of Bones, City of Ashes, City of Glass) - but you have to read all three. The first book isn't spectacular on its own, so it's easy to give up, but as part of the series of three, it is a great story rivaling Twilight for me.

One of my favorite series: Pillars of The Earth and World Without End, by Ken Follet.
I just finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, the first of the three books in the Millenium series, by Stieg Larrson. THe author submitted the three books and died not long afterwards. Such a shame, because these books are international bestsellers.

These are funny, campy smutty romance..they're fun...until the covers change and then they get darker. I think that's like around the 7th book or something.

Even though it was written for the teen market, Percy Jackson and the Olympians is good if you like Greek Mythology. it's a big hit amongst all the early teens...and a series.

The sookie books. Definitely! Also, the Morganville Vampire Series is great! Another one, not vampy or YA is JD Robb's In Death series. There's probably nearly 30 books by now, but by far one of my favorite book series ever!

Ooh, great to see so many recommendations! I am in serious need of books. Duu to the hibe here and at DST I bought a Shopaholic book a couple of years ago - and never finished it I find it soo boring, I don't get it. So when all started raving about the Twilight series, I thought...na, not going there. They had the books here at special at Target and I thought, OK for that price I can risk to buy the first book... The next day I went and bought the rest
I would love to get the Kindle, now that it is available for us here in Australia too, but simply can't afford it at the moment. It will be a good investment for me though, I love reading so much and I am a really fast reader; Hubby always says, I inhale books |

Did you read An Echo in the Bone? That is the latest. I swear - I need to go and reread them all again. I got lost in the Fiery Cross....

I'd suggest the Sookie Stackhouse Series by Charlaine Harris first. Super quick, easy reads. I throughly enjoyed them and seriously was sad when they ended. The next book is due out in May and I can't wait!!
Then I'd read the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series by JR Ward next. Whew-wee....the men in this series will getcha! I think I enjoyed this series even more than the Sookie Series. Also these books are part of the 4 for the price of 3 on Amazon. Then I'd suggest the Midnight Breed Series by Lara Adrian after that. I've just started this series and I'm onto book 3. Love em so far! Let me know if you want any suggestions....and I don't have room to keep my books so I will prob be selling my Sookie and Black Dagger Series soon. |

I love the Thursday Next series by Jasper Fforde. They are about a somewhat alternate reality where dodos are pets, cheese is obscenely priced, and everyone rides in blimps or tubes through the earth. The lead character can jump into books and is part of a literary police force. Great books! The first one is the Eyre Affair. I would highly recommend!

Another vote for Pillars of the Earth and World Without End.
I also really loved the Boleyn Girl series by Philippa Gregory.

I was going to suggest the Outlander Series - I'm reading the 6th book now and really like them.
The Mortal Instruments series and the Scott Westerfeld books are in my to read folder (I have a Sony eBook reader ). Another set of books I really enjoyed was the Gemma Doyle Trilogy by Libba Bray. Fun thread - I'm glad to have some more books to add to my queue.

I was just thinking about rereading the O'Malley series by Dee Henderson over Christmas. It is about a group of foster kids that form a family after they get out of the foster system. It is really well written. It has suspense without freaking you out =) Her military series is very good also.

I really liked those books until I heard that Debra Messing was going to play Stephanie Plum in the movie. And then I could only picture her while reading the books. And I couldn't read them anymore.

sometimes I really hate living in a small community ... I have been waiting for the Sookie Stackhouse books for MONTHS!! Not sure if I am game enough to buy them yet or not though.
Thanks for this thread, guess I'll have to start another list at the library. I've read the House of Night Series, the Uglies/Pretties/Specials/Extras books ... so hard to find books here.

Jasper Fford is awesome! Thursday Next is a wonderful character & her traveling between books is just what readers wish they could do. Well of Lost Plots is my favorite. The Nursery Crimes series of his is good too. Nursery rhyme characters live in the real world in Swindon. The first is the Big Over Easy where Jack Spratt has to discover whether Humpty Dumpty jumped or was pushed.
