This February we'll be reading one of our top-rated books:
The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny by Kiran Desai.

This literary fiction novel is a spellbinding story of two young people whose fates will intersect and diverge across continents and years - an epic tale of love and family, India and America, tradition and modernity, exploring themes of loneliness, identity, immigration, family duty, class, race, and the search for happiness and belonging.

This thread is for initial thoughts, expectations, assumptions, etc - I'll be back in the second week of February with a list of specific discussion questions for us all to explore together.

Just a reminder that book club is for everyone! Feel free to join us if and when you can - no pressure to keep up with every month... you can also pop in later in the year and catch up on the convo if you're a slow reader or had a long wait to get your copy. It's all very low-key.

HOLY moly- this audio is 26 hours long! That must be a gazillion pages- most books are around 10-12 hrs long! lol Thankfully I listen at 1.75-2x speed!

lol any slower & my mind wanders & I don't comprehend what I'm listening to! :p

Same :D

I tend to stick around 1.5/1.75 I can get up to 2 if the reader is particularly slow or I’m in a hurry lol.

The worst is when everything randomly resets itself… I’m like is this slow motion? Oh no, just normal speed :D

I have it on hold, and it will be available in two days. It's such a long book, so I'm hoping I will be able to renew it if I don't finish in 2 weeks. I just checked, and the audio is available in 3 months.

I decided to skip this one.... don't think I would manage to finish it even on audiobook. I'll be back in March!

The ebook just became available at my library, and it seems like a slow read for me -- about 30 pages in. I'm wondering how I can read the book and PARTY here at SSD this month!

Have you heard of Speechify? I haven’t used it but I’ve seen ads for it. It’s supposed to be able to read text to you- assuming kind of like a Kindle can. I doubt it’s the same quality as an audiobook, but might be helpful for multitasking while scrapping??

I'm really not into audiobooks except to help me fall asleep at night -- I put them at .8 to to make it drag a bit.

I doubt I will finish this book by the end of the month. I've read about 150 pages, and I'm wondering if it will fulfill the book description. *sigh*

I just finished the audio- Took me about 4 days- when I normally finish a book in 1-2 days max. Still thinking about how to rate it. There were parts I really liked, then other parts I was trying to figure out who was who over & over again.
