Dec 15- QotD- What is ALWAYS in the stocking?

The Ghost of Awesome Past
Is there one thing that goes in stockings every year without fail (toothbrush and new toothpaste, underwear, socks, orange, etc)?

For our house, I always put a satsuma orange in the stocking and a toothbrush. And a bag of minis of each person's favorite candy- Reeses for Tom, Jacob, and Logan, Snickers for my dad. Everything else varies by year, but those things are ALWAYS in the stocking.

How about at your house? What is always in the stocking?

an orange and a peppermint stick once they hit 3.

((my parents actually still get them for all of us too. lol))

I always give my kids a disposable camera so they can take photos. We also put candy and underwear and socks in there. =)

hmm... this is the second year we've done stockings... not something that either our families did much growing up... so I guess the one thing is candy... but I do like the idea of oranges... since both J and DH love them!

That's so funny that we all do oranges. That's the one thing that goes in first. I grew up listening to my grandmother tell me every year about how when she was a little girl during the depression they got 1 orange and then something her mother made for them in their stockings (she was the youngest of 9). She'd talk about how she'd treasure that orange and make it last as long as she could by only eating one piece a day. So when she grew up and had my mother she always put an orange in her stocking to remember how much she had to be thankful for. And then my mother always put oranges in our stockings and now I do the same for my kids. And now I'm all crying and stuff lol

Growing up we always got an apple, an orange & a candy cane (little did we know then, it was because there was extras from the fire station after santa's visit - both of my parents were vol. firefighters)

1 thing, so far that is constant for us, is an ornament, I want my kids to leave home as adults with a box of their own Christmas ornaments.

Hmmm...I'm not sure I have an "always"!!! :D :D But if I had to take a guess...probably a toothbrush!! I think I also always get the girls some type of lip stuff and the boys almost always get a matchbox car!!! :D

Toothbrush, Ferrero Rocher, and a pomegranate are always in DS and DD stockings (we got hooked on pomegranates years ago when living in San Diego and Cheyanne and her Christopher both LOVE them). Christopher's wife continues the tradition for him :)

We tell Santa to fill the stockings in our house (that's all he does). It usually includes a toothbrush... maybe some fun pens and then a few smaller toys... and candy of course!

Growing up we ALWAYS had an apple, orange and giant peppermint candy cane stick in our stocking....ALWAYS!

My hubby always gets reese's PB cups in his...the boys always have small toys (cars, playdoh, books, gift cards for the oldest)m&ms in theirs....we are trying to cut back on the candy this year so we'll see....we haven't stocking stuffer shopped yet!

rocks... LOL.. those bags of decorative rocks you can find at the dollar store.. Last year ce got the glass pebble kind (we had fish) this year he got the river rock kind :p he gets so excited about them.. he's a goober.

My daughter always gets a mini orange (mandarins I think they're called) and a Kinder Surprise egg.

My hubby's stocking always has some sour candies and mixed bag of licorice candy.

In mine I can always count on having Ferrero Rocher chocolates :)

DH always gets a chocolate orange & some kind of Ghirardelli chocolate. Usually either a CD or an iTunes GC. Some small game, like a card game or new dice. Other than that, it's different every year.

La: I've got three sons that always get excited when they see polished rocks. I even brought back some from Animal Kingdom in October. I should go get some bags at the dollar store, never thought of that!

Here, there is always some Kinder Surprise eggs and some little Hot Wheels. They also always have a little Mister/Miss book in there each year.

So, no kids in our family so that makes me the child (at 35!) and I always get an orange, a bag of chocolate coins and some other types of Christmassy chocolate and shampoo and conditioner - when I was little it was a bottle of Matey bubble bath but I kind of grew out of that one. There are other small things too but these are the always things :)

I've been thinking about this all day, and I can't think of one thing that we always put in the stockings. There's usually some kind of candy, but it's not the same kind each year. I am going to start the tradition of putting a new toothbrush in - that's a great idea! This year they're getting a bunch of camping stuff - a first aid kit, a small mess kit (assuming it fits), insect repellent, a camping towel, and a few other things along those lines.

There is always some kind of candy in their stockings. And a toy. It was action figures the past few years but it's Hot Wheels this year.

Santa does the stockings in our house.

My oldest DD always gets Nutella in hers, youngest gets a jar of green olives, and my Mom always gets black licorice and a dark chocoloate orange. Everyone gets dental floss too.

We always have a nice juicy orange in the toe of the stocking. I never appreciated it as a kid, but I know it was something my Grandma always gave to her kids for Christmas, and her mom gave to her kids... it's one of those things that goes waaaay back. So I do it, too. :)

A decent sized chocolate santa, I always got that when I was growing up, and I'm doing the same for Birk. He is only entering his 4th christmas and of those his 3rd stocking so we're not totally into our traditional stocking yet. Another few years and I will probably have more stuff that tends to always fill up that stocking :)

We don't use stockings for Christmas - they are used for St Nicholas Day. :-) Even then it doesn't truly have to be a stocking, at least we didn't use one when I was a kid.
