Collabs
So I woke up today thinking I love two or three designer kits (collabs). You know, like Flergs and Amber whose styles complement each other perfectly well. Then I thought it might be super interesting to see designers of different styles making a collab. How would it turn out?
Who would you like to see a collab from? Are there any designers you like separately but would love to see making a collab? I thought about Blagovesta and Kristin, for example! I'm pretty sure they've never done a collab but with both having different designing styles -- what would a collab from them look like? Please, share -- are there any designers you'd like to see making a kit together?

They are! I just love it when those three collab together.
I also like it when Libby and Erica collab, or Ru together with Amanda and Simone.

As much fun as it would be see to an eclectic style with a traditional style for a customer, I imagine it's a lot of stress for the designers with polar opposite design styles to mesh well and look appealing for purchasing. You would have to keep in mind that this might be the only time someone gets to try that designer. And if your styles don't mesh well, and you can't make a cohesive product, you could potentially lose a customer. So as much as I'd love to see polar opposite designer collabs, I wouldn't wish the stress of putting together a cohesive collab on them.
You know what I would like instead......I would like little coordinating mini products, kind of like what some of them did for the Scrapaneers Winter Magic collab. Each designer (Flergs, Studio Basic, Red Ivy, Wendy Page and a few more) had a little mini to add to the whole collection. You could use it as a whole or use just one designer's product. That's what I'd like to see because then I imagine it would be less stress on each of the designers "collabing" together. |

I actually find that collabing with designers who have different styles & strengths from my own to be less stressful (because we don't trod on each other's territory or duplicate things) and makes for a more balanced kit with good variety in papers and elements. Of course, having a different style is not the same as having the same aesthetic. It's important that collabing designers have the same taste in colors and design in general. I think when that all lines up it makes the PERFECT kit. <3
I've also loved working with Amanda Yi and Rachel (Captivated Visions) for the same reasons as I love working with KCB & Ru. I fully realize my customer base might not be the same KCB's or Ru's but I would hope none of us are actually losing customers by working together. |

I have actually become a fan of some designers who I had first tried in collabs before purchasing their stand alone products. To be honest, I haven't thought about collabs being stressful... I'd like to believe designers team up because they want to do it, not because someone or something demands it.

I would hope if they go in to an agreement on a collab, that it would be mutual and willing. I know some shops where it's mandatory to do a collab with whomever they are assigned and I imagine it's tough meshing their styles together. I worry about those things, you know the "other man's viewpoint". I'm strange I guess!

I would love to see more KCB & Flergs collabs. The ones they have had in the past are epic and they're two of my favorite designers so more collabs would make me scrap like a nutter

each designer was put into a group and was assigned a color pallette. They made a mini kit/template pack each for their color group. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

I love scooping with everyone in the store! I think there's something in common with all of us that lands us all here. Sure there are different styles and strengths, but when we work together I feel like we adjust and I've never seen any scoop that felt forced. Some of them actually make me go "wow I didn't know she could do that!" And it's a lot of fun.

I love scooping! That was one of the things that first impressed me when I came here few years ago and I've never felt forced too. I'm always curious to see the parts pop in our shared folders and can't wait to see them together in a final preview. There is no scoop I'm disappointed from because of the different styles so far. On the contrary - some of my favorite scoops are with designer so different from me. And mainly - we really have fun working together and I think this is one of the things that make us a family ♥

Erica & Libby are two of my favorite scoopers.
Also, Brook & Amanda & Captivated Visions made Color Your Happy and that kit is the most beautiful mix of their three styles. Kristin & Jenn Barrette made an Everyday Storyteller collection a few years ago, and it was so magical. I love the way their styles compliment each other. I love the way Kristin & Amber's style are so similar so when they make a kit together, it's like an explosion of flowers and the perfect color scheme and pure happiness. Ru & Simone make pretty things together, and I love when Ru & Shawna come together to make art. So now I'm super curious about which designers have NEVER teamed up, and I think this could be a good 2018 goal: For every designer in the shoppe to have at least one collab with each of the others.

I am really new to collabs, but I am looking forward to working with everyone and will hopefully get the chance over time. But, I've had a kit in mind for at least two years that I would love to do with Krystal.

I think that's a great idea, Kellie!!!
I think the fact that we work together so often is one of the most awesome things about SSD. And it's totally voluntary. It's very exciting to see what we can create when we come together. It definitely makes the creative process more exciting for me. |
