Description: For Dr. Seuss? Birthday, Kip ?interrupted? my library chats and we ?performed? Green Eggs and Ham. Eileen actually made green eggs and ham, which fascinated the kids. They really got into it, repeating ?anywhere? each time it was spoken. Kip and I had as much fun as the kids.

I hear that pride in your voice that they are so much like you were as a child ? agile, fearless, adventurous, mischievous, and independent. I love that you have never lost your youthful spirit and share it so generously with your girls. It is so much fun to watch the way you encourage their natural interest in learning, grasping the teachable moments to show them scientific experiments and the intricacies of technology. I admire your patience as Juliet covers you with stickers and while you comb silly putty out of her uncombable hair. It is so much fun to watch you sharing your love of water with them while teaching them water safety. I know that they are extremely fortunate to have you for a father.

Description: My fondest childhood memories are of time shared with my Grandma Ollie, who taught me embroidery and painting. I had eagerly anticipated sharing creative activities with granddaughters; however, around the time I turned 60, I had given up hope of having grandchildren. Then Steve met and married Hannah. Within five years, I had three Grand Girls! This photo is very special to me because it is of the first time I was able to share my love for making beaded jewelry with five-year-old Juliet, who now has the digital dexterity to create with beads. Proudly, she was able to make herself a bracelet.

Description: To my knowledge, this 1996 display of the Names Project Memorial Quilt on the National Mall in Washington, DC, is the last time it was displayed in its entirety, due to its enormous size. The display stretched from the U.S. Capitol to the Washington Monument. The love that went into making the quilt is immense. It hallows the ground on which it lies. There are no words to describe the experience of viewing this testimonial to enduring love.
