Dream, Cure for Autism

This is my 12th digi layout and I'm a complete newbie, but sooo addicted. I think outside wanting to spend 24/7 right now learning all I can (which of course I can't with 3 little ones the hardest thing for me is keeping track of all the credits.. Hoping I get everyone here.

I wanted to do this not only because it's a great cause and in fact relates to my page in a round-about way, BUT to challenge myself. I've already learned some new techniques and it's so fun!

This page is a re-work of a paper-scrap pg I did several years ago on Autism, specifically Hyperlexia, which is what my dd is challenged with. My dream is that sometime soon, a cure will be found.. that pharmaceutical companies, govt agencies and the best researching entities out there can come together and work together instead of against one another, so yet another generation of babies is not afflicted with this horrible disorder.

Journaling is a poem I did for my daughter (looks small but in 12x12 format will be very readable):

LETTERS:

Letters, letters everywhere
over here and over there,
Short and fat, big or tall
it doesnt matter you love them all.

Backwards, forwards and inside out
you love your letters without a doubt.
At 18 months you spelled the park sign
I couldn’t believe it, it wasnt your time.

What was going on?
A show too much?
I later learned you hadn’t heard a bunch.
So on went close captioning and amazing things came
But we also knew life would never be the same.

Your reading brought you out of a shell
your awe-struck mom is one to tell...
Let Hyperlexic children
read, read, read
it’s how they will learn and how they will succeed.

At 24 months when you did a puzzle, zero thru nine...
you looked perplexed when you couldn’t find a sign
....of a number ten, where could it be?
It doesnt matter, you put “1” and “0” together and said “see”!

I’ve always known you were creative and smart.
I’ve known it all along, right from the start.
I’m your mom and I’m no fool
but my baby was growing up, what about school?

You started school at the wee age of three
I cried and cried til I couldn’t see
when the bus drove off with my baby girl inside
what will come of you, please God, give me a sign..

In true Ellie spirit and form
you charmed the socks off all - you’ve never been the norm!
I’m so proud of you, I can hardly see straight,
but this Autism disorder, I truly do hate

There are new treatments and hopes for a cure
I’m more optimistic, that’s for sure.
But until we see that day arrive
please know I will love and support you everyday I’m alive.

You are my perfect girl Ellie!
I love you.....
