Journaling: I am so blessed that having children came easily & being a mom is natural. There are many people in the world who would love to have children & are unable, so I know how blessed I truly am. I really shouldn’t complain about being a mom & it’s not really a complaint about motherhood, more or less a realization that I am more than just a mom.
I read a passage the other day that said :
“God wants you to know...that it's time you remembered who you really are. You are not your wallet, your job, your kids, your house. You are not your activities or your worries or the labels other people give you. Like an actor you play these roles, and like a good actor you sometimes forget..t who you really are. Time to wake up now, and remember that you are a being of immense power and breathtaking beauty created in the image of God.’
Ever since that day I’ve been thinking about that a lot. Thinking about how before I became a mother I enjoyed many things. Thinking about how I could regain myself & not just be ‘a mom” or just be “RH’s wife”.
What is it that makes me, me? What makes me happy? What do I really enjoy doing? What else can I do? Am I living up to my full potential? Am I really supposed to be just a mom?
Of course being a mom, is way more than “just” being mom. It entails many jobs all rolled into one; cleaning lady, chef, nurse, bookkeeper, hairdresser, personal stylist, taxi service, personal assistant, disciplinarian, teacher, hand holder, guidance counselor & probably a thousand more that seem to slip my mind. Often times MOM is a thankless & under appreciated job.
Being a stay at home mom, although a wonderful blessing that I’m very fortunate to have, sometimes compounds these negative feelings. There isn’t a day that goes by that I’m not with my kids. Most days there isn’t an hour that goes by that I’m not with my kids. When I do have something I need to get done on my own or have something I want to do for me, I feel incredibly guilty leaving them home with RH or finding a babysitter. I feel almost as if it would burden them because I know how they can behave, or lack there of. Therefore I don’t get away from being Just Mom & be JUST ME. I don’t take the time for me, which I’m starting to think should change & I shouldn’t feel guilty about it because if I spend everyday, all day with them, I’m going to lose more of me that’s already lost. The me that doesn’t know who me is.

Awesome journaling! I think all moms have felt that way a time or twelve and it is definitely important to find that balance between mom and self.
