JOurnaling:
A couple of years ago
I would have never
considered going, but
things changed after
my cousin Randy died.
Seeing his absentee dad
so brokenhearted--
thinking there would
always be time to
reconnect. The truth is
life is short and
family matters. So
after 6 years we made
the effort and went
to my grandma’s 80th
birthday. My grandparents
had met Grace a couple
of years ago and no
one had met Caroline.
It was awkward, yes...but
good to see everybody.
Most people had no idea
what I was even up to
in life, and that was ok
(I had no idea what they
were up to either). Maybe
it broke the ice, maybe
things will stay the
same, but I am happy
that I decided to go
and that celebrating my
grandmother was more
important than pride.
