Credits for The Birthday Girl
Do you ever have a page that just gives you fits? Well, this is that page. I had clear vision when I sat down to work on it, and, I think, that’s always dangerous, because it’s pretty tough to get the reality to match that “dream page” in your head. Anyway, after much work, here it is, and I think I got pretty close. My husband spent 10 days in the hospital last summer, while they ran tests trying to figure out what was wrong with him. My daughter’s first birthday fell during his stay. It made me sad that my last baby’s birthday would be tainted by the memory of me fearing for my husband’s life. Ultimately
I diagnosed him after doing a lot of internet research. I told them which tests to run, and I was right. He’s being treated for Addison’s disease now and feels good and is doing well, but there were some scary days in there. We celebrated her birthday in the waiting room. I took a bottle of hand sanitizer and cleaned her hands every 5 minutes I think! He felt good that day.
Journaling reads: August 8, 2007. Daddy was in the hospital on Eleanor’s 1st birthday, So, we canceled her party, cleaned our hands a lot, and ate her cake in the waiting room. (font is Holiday Springs BTN)
The illustration of the baby with the cake is scanned from my baby book, 1970 from Hallmark.
