Journaling:
I remember clearly the day my Grandpa Poulsen passed away. He had been sick with various ailments for a time and was staying in a rehab center until he recovered. He kept hanging on, mostly for my brother, to whom he had promised he would be here still when he returned from his mission. But his health was failing and it seemed that his promise could not be fulfilled. Once he talked to Justin on the phone, he seemed more at peace. I went to visit him a couple of days before he passed. We could tell he was close because he kept talking about family who had passed away and a green meadow as he slept. The next day, he slipped into a coma like state and we went to say goodbye. Being in the room as someone is passing is such a sacred experience. I could feel the presence of angels and felt certain my grandma was there, waiting to take him home. As I kissed him goodbye, he called me “Gayle”. The last person he spoke to was Jared. As Jared leaned down and said “Hey Grandad”, Grandpa responded with “Hey, is that Jared?” Grandpa always did like Jared. The following morning, Grandpa slipped quietly away from this world. I have no doubt a wonderful reunion was happening in heaven as he got to be with Grandma again. He had been without her for twelve years and I know from talking to him that he always ached for her. In fact, he once told me that he didn't understand why the Lord didn't take them both together. And so I now have two angels in heaven and I've felt both of them near when I've needed extra help. I think about them daily and miss them terribly, but I know I will see them again. That knowledge is the most priceless piece of knowledge that I posses.
