On the 4th of November we went to visit the oldgoldmining township Walhalla, in the Gippsland district's Baw Baw Ranges in Victoria. Only a handful of permanent residents live there today, but in the last decades of the 19th century, it was the heart of one of the most vibrant gold mining districts in the world, and a major influence in shaping the prosperity of a newly founded state.
It was a lovely and very interesting trip. Quite scary that only a couple of days later this historic township was seriously threatened by bushfires.
