Journaling says: This picture was taken 1 week ago today at pretty much this very time. We had just arrived at the ER at Children's Hospital for our 3-4 day stay to confirm and then learn to manage your diabetes. It was a scary moment for all of us and looking at this picture now, it still brings tears to my eyes. They had just tried for the third time to get an IV starter into you and thankfully, the third time was a charm. Learning you have Type 1 diabetes is definitely very bittersweet for us. We wish we could make you better, that there was a way to fix your pancreas so that it would do what it's supposed to do. We wish there was a way we could have prevented this. However there isn't... and so we're grateful for the fact you have been formally diagnosed. We're thankful that we know what's wrong with you and are learning to manage your diabetes so that you can lead a very normal and healthy life. Above that, we're so very happy that we caught it early. That you only had to have an IV starter rather than an IV.. we're so thankful that we discovered it before you got really sick, before you ended up in the ICU on an insulin pump. We hate this diagnosis, we wish with everything inside us that you didn't have to go through this, but right now.. we're so very thankful that we at least know and we're learning to manage it...
