When I was growing up in the 60's and 70's,
Christmas for me was like living in the perfect
fairytale. We always spent Christmas with
my beloved grandparents at their cabin on
Lake Tawakani. Granddaddy would string
lights outside and we decorated a real tree
indoors. He loved trying to make us believe
that Santa was on the roof and would go to
great lengths to ensure that we heard the
sleigh bells on the roof. We set out cookies
and milk for Santa, then Granny would
tell us a bedtime story to get the visions of
sugarplums dancing in our heads.There were
always an over abundance of presents and
after our Christmas lunch, we would spend
hours taking turns opening our gifts. I still
treasure the Christmas' I had with my
grandparents. It is not the same now
without them. Her infectous laughter and
his spirit is sorely missed. Times have
changed and they have passed on but
the memories live on with each Christmas.
