On Saturday ,May 21st, I woke up with a slight headache. I have been having these Sledge Hammer to the skull headaches ever since October when I recieved an electric shock at work fixing some lighting equipment in our photo studio . I went to work as normal on that Saturday morning. As the day went on, my headache got worse and worse. Around 1:16 pm, my headache had turned so bad I no longer could normally function. I called my district manager, Katie, and let her know that I wasn't feeling well at all and I was going to have to close the studio. Afterwards, I put away the camera and sat down at the desk to call my customer to re-book her session. I remember getting off the phone with my customer and just not feeling right. That is the last thing I remember. Next thing I know, I woke up face down laying on my stomach next to the desk in the lobby of the studio. I woke up quite confused and signed out of work and drove myself to the nearest urgent care, in Onalaska, Wisconsin. Honestly I don't remember getting to the urgent care. The doctors took me back immediately. I was very confused and slurring my speech. The right leg of my body felt like it was 100 lbs and I couldn't really grasp what was going on. I was given a EKG to check my heart and they checked my blood pressure and heart rate. My head was pounding at this time. The doctor was quick to see the signs of the stroke. I was given high doses of steroids and pain medication through IVs. The medical team believes I had what they call a TIA or a mini stroke. They are not quite sure the cause, but the doctor mentioned that it may have been caused due to the fact my body was in so much pain from the headaches that I have been having lately that basically it shot a pain shock to my brain causing a slight clot causing my mini stroke. I was released from the urgent care department quite a few hours later. I was put on steroid medication and a daily dose of aspirin. And a doctors note to take off on Sunday the 22nd to rest.I had a physical already planned for Monday May 23rd, so my primary doctor also did a follow up to my urgent care trip. She kept the medication given by urgent care and upped my dose of aspirin. She told me to avoid stress and rest as much as possible. Since my mini stroke, I have been extremely weak and sleepy. The first day I could not chew on my right side without the feeling of cotton in my mouth and drooling. My right leg also has been causing issues walking. I am slowly getting better, but have a limp and thank gosh now I can finally eat without drooling! My doctors believe that my symptoms from the mini stroke will disappear a week or so. It was a scary experience I do not wish to repeat or wish on my worst enemy! I am continuing taking my medication as directed and avoiding as much stress as possible. I am higher risk for more dangerous strokes. And will always have this medical emergency in my memory.
