CREW CAT
In 1996, Major League Soccer's first team, the Columbus Crew, began play in temporary facilities of The Ohio State University's football stadium. "Crew Cat" was introduced as a team mascot. When the team moved into the league's first soccer-specific stadium in 1999, a slightly revamped Crew Cat continued to "prowl" the grounds.
SC
In March, 2015, shortly after the Columbus Crew officially became "Columbus Crew SC", a new mascot was revealed. His name is "SC". He wears #96 on his jersey for the year the team began play. He is described as the "son" of the team's original mascot, Crew Cat, who was to be retired.
2017, after "he-who-shall-not-be-named" (the owner who had purchased the Crew in 2013) and the MLS Commissioner conspired to move the team to Texas, a grass-roots, fan-driven, world-wide movement to save MLS's first team began. 2018 was filled with tons of legal maneuvers. Finally, an ownership group to buy the team and keep it in Columbus was announced. October 12th officially became "Saved the Crew" day. The team dropped the "SC" from the name, and the "Columbus Crew" brought back the old mascot, Crew Cat, to work with his "son." Late in the 2024 season, the "old cat" got some "cosmetic work done" including a tail!
