Journaling reads-It takes ALOT to make me angry. That is why it was surprising when I blew my top over something so small during Christmas break, 1999. Chris and I were getting ready for the holiday party for the school that I worked at. As we were dressing, Chris kept fussing over his collar. He kept saying that “it didn’t look right”, or “it didn’t feel right.” I didn’t think anything of it, because he is normally particular when it comes to grooming himself. Finally, it was time to leave and I was ready to go. Chris, on the other hand, was still fiddling with his collar. He asked me to help him fix it, and so I did, and I thought it looked fine. He still didn’t think so, and grew increasingly upset. Finally, he’d had enough and said loudly, “I am not going!”. I, of course, brushed it off and told him to forget about it. He again proclaimed he wasn’t going, and turned around to leave the bathroom. I asked him specifically what was
wrong, and he said that the collar didn’t form a perfect “V” on his neck, and it was all crooked. I couldn’t believethis! We were now late to the party, and he was worrying over some silly collar that wasn’t aligned correctly. Again, he said he wasn’t going and finally I got fed up. I grabbed him by the collar, forming a fist and I yanked him towards my face so we were looking eye to eye. Then, I pretty much growled at him in a terse voice and said “you will go to the party!” I literally was seeing red, I was so angry with him. He was being so ridiculous! He didn’t say another word to me as we got into the car and drove to the party. We did end up discussing it later as we cooled down-he was just trying to look good for me (this was the first time he would meet my coworkers, and he
wanted to make sure he looked good for me), and I told him I didn’t care what he looked like, as long as he was going with me. Fortunately, we look back on this incident and laugh, I am glad that I rarely get angry-it was surprising for both
of us (and a little scary for me-I had never been so angry over anything, let alone something so trivial). You can seefrom these pictures that he is much more laid back! 12/02
