Journaling reads-June 1960. Here is my dad Larry (right) with his older brother Deutz in Grandpa Newell’s garage at their house in Tacoma, Washington. Deutz was a few years older than my dad, and I think dad looked up to him. Everyone loved Deutz-they said he was fun to be around and an all around good guy. My dad would try to hang out with Deutz as much as possible-they even went out on double dates together. In this picture, they are spending time working on one of their cars (they had to share when they lived at home). They often spent time together working on cars and fixing them up. Unfortunately, Deutz died in a drunk driving accident on Halloween night, 1968. He was drunk and missed a sharp curve and drove into a home. My dad doesn’t talk about his brother much. Most of the stories I hear about him are from my mother, who also knew him in highschool-as they all went out and did things together. I don’t have many pictures of my dad’s side of the family, and this was the only one I could find of his brother. It is nice to see a picture of them happy together before he died.
