JOURNALING:
The first couple of weeks after Wesley was born are now like a
blur to me. Everyone always talks about how magical and amazing it is to
have a newborn. And yes, it is amazing. There is nothing like it.
But it is also hard. Very hard. How could someone so small cause so much chaos in a
household? There were many tears shed in those first few
weeks - by Wes and by me - mostly at feeding times. Breastfeeding was unbelievably hard,
and adjusting to so little sleep was harder to
adjust to than I had imagined. But thankfully Wes started sleeping eight hours per night at
around 6 weeks old... and the world was a much brighter place after getting a good night's rest.
In the end, my Grandma gave me the best advice about caring
for a newborn: always be calm. "Follow those ABC's of caring for a newborn,"
she said "and everything will be alright." And she was right.
