Journaling:
Just before my 8th grade year, my youth group decided to climb Mt. Saint
Helens. I put my name in, excited to go! We spent the night at the base
of the mountain. There was only one other girl, and we shared a tent together.
The boys wasted no time trying to scare us (even Larry, the youth pastor,
joined in). I also learned that those thin, silver blankets really do keep
you warm! The next morning we headed up. It took us about six hours
to reach the top. It was one of the hardest things I had ever done, but it
was so worth it! The views were indescribable! And the view from the top
was breathtaking! Words can’t express what it felt like, sitting at the top
staring down into the crater. Heading down, it took around four hours to get
back to the car. I got a few blisters from it all, but I didn’t care. I was just so
happy that I did it! I climbed Mt. Saint Helens! ~Summer of 1994
