After we left the Umpqua Lighthouse, we kept heading south. Soon we got to
Port Orford and we headed to Cape Blanco and the lighthouse there. And
as luck would have it, this was one we were able to go up in!! I was so excited.
This was the first lighthouse I’d ever gotten to go up into. The boys were thrilled
too. We had to wait our turn, and then we walked up. They told us not to touch
the brick wall to help preserve it. The lady said it would wear away the walls -
make them melt. Liam hung onto that bit of knowledge for months after, asking if
this wall or that wall would melt. At the top, the view was spectacular! The man
up there told us about the powerful light and how it helps ships stay safe out at
sea. Soon it was done and we left, taking with us some incredible memories!
