My faith
We celebrated Epiphany day of the king! We celebrates the date of the visit of the three kings to the infant Jesus. For every French person, the Epiphany is synonymous with the "galette des rois", a King cake that is eaten ceremoniously a few days before and after 6 January. The King's cake has many recipes but the most traditional one is a round cake (symbolizing the sun) made with puff pastry and frangipane. Inside each cake, a small charm made of porcelain is hidden. The person who finds the charm in his cake is the King or Queen of the day.
To avoid any cheating, traditions say the youngest person must go under the table. Usually, it will be a child announcing who the piece of cake is going for. Also, traditionally, families always cut an extra piece of cake and they leave it for the poor or an unannounced visitor. It's called the portion of God.
We really love this tradition and celebrate it together.
