Sunday, April 2nd, 2023 I woke up about midnight with an urge to have to pee and a slight pain in my leg that felt like a charlie horse along with a pain in my right side starting about belly button level and wrapping around to my back. I was peeing every five minutes and while I took a warm back, the pain didn't really go away. I tried to go back to bed, thinking maybe I could make it until morning and then go into the clinic to be checked out, yet I just couldn't get comfortable. Laying down was almost unbearable. By 3 am, I was still peeing every 5 mins and the pain was so intense I could barely take it anymore. I quickly threw on some clothes and told my husband he had to take me to the ER.
At the ER, they quickly got me checked in. Thankfully, we chose a night where they were not too busy. I made a mad dash for their bathroom. While I was in their peeing, the uncontrollably throwing up started. I swear I threw up at least 5 times within 3 mins! and I am not talking a little of puke here people. It was more puke than I have ever thrown up in my whole life! I don't know where it all came from. I pulled the little nurse call light, and she came in to find me covered in vomit along with the floor. I felt so bad for her as she left. I could hear her gagging in the hall way.
They did a CT scan at the ER that night and found that my right kidney was quite swollen and that it has four nasty stones. One nasty stone still in the kidney and 3 hanging out in the tubes trying to make their way out of me causing me all the pain. Meanwhile, I was given an IV of fluids, anti nausea medication and a shot of fentanyl for the intense pain. I swear the pain was worse than all my labors put together and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
I was sent home with four different medications, hydrocodone for the pain, a medication to help open up the pee tubes to help pass the stones, anti nausea medication and an antibiotic to prevent infection. And I was told that urology would call to make an appointment.
Urology called the next morning to tell me they couldn't get me in till Aug 7th! I was irate and still in intense pain. My whole bottom half literally felt like it had gone through a meat grinder (for lack of better words). I barely slept a wick and I didn't know how on earth I could make it till Aug. I was still throwing up off and on and couldn't barely keep anything down. I called my family doctor hoping to get in with her but sadly she was off. Thankfully they got me in with a doctor who I have history with, and he could see me right away that next day, Monday the 3rd.
Dr. Thruman was so kind and listened to my issues and agreed the wait to Aug was crazy. He was concerned about my intense pain and throwing up along with my puffy right side. He gave me a doctors note to take off 2 weeks of work and promised to call the urology department for me.
The next morning urology called and listened to my concerns. After speaking with the doctor they agreed they needed to see me right away. They made an appointment for me on the 5th. Long story short. I saw Dr. Wise on April 5th. After seeing him and him seeing how much pain I was in and speaking to his higher up doctor I was told I that surgery was the best option for me. There was a stone blocking my pee flow causing issues, and I was not passing the stones like they wanted and the best option they could think of was to go in and zap the stones with the laser and put a stunt in. Surgery was planned for later that night at 4 pm.
I went home took a short nap and my mom took me back around 3:30 for surgery. And by 430 I was wheeled in for surgery. Surgery took longer than expected due to the fact they had an issue getting a breathing tube down my throat. And it was a bit touch a go for a few moments. (the back of my throat is quite scratched up and scared now) and they said it could be a future problem.. and issue if I ever have surgery again. But surgery went smooth and the nasty buggers are gone. And my mom took me home with her last night to recover. I am on the mend now. And glad these nasty kidney stones are no more.
