This was for a January birthday party! It was single digits that day

The birthday girl is the youngest of 5, she wanted to invite her class, and her mom figured it is probably the only opportunity for such a plan. She is an elementary school teacher, but nonetheless, she is quite brave in my opinion!
Journaling:
A.J. and his friend H. R. were invited to their classmate Elizabeth?s 9th birthday party. It was a Hawaiian theme party with Polynesian games and tasty treats. Mind you, it is January in Iowa and the high today was only 6 degrees. These boys both insisted on wearing their ?finest? island wear including flip flops! H. even put on his sister?s dress-up grass skirt! It was the most excited I?ve ever seen these boys get about getting ready to go anywhere! The party was a giant hit with the under ten crowd. Frankly, it was a huge hit with us all. I think Mrs. D. is a very BRAVE and FUN mom! By far this was the best report about a birthday party I?ve received. Their parting gift was a lei and a coconut drink cup with straw, SO FUN! A.J. picked out a pug Webkinz for Elizabeth along with some silk leis (including a green one for himself to wear to the party) and a Hawaiian shirt notepad. What impressed me was that he really cared to find the right gift. He even initiated a phone call to her mom to see if a Webkinz was okay and if so, ask which ones she already had. He really did a great job on the phone, making me just a tad proud of the very caring boy he has become.
