June Portfolio Challenge #27 - Tell your story
Journaling: About a week after Valentines, I get a phone call on a Friday, mid-afternoon from Alan asking if he can take me to dinner. Sure, but aren’t you at work right now, in San Antonio? Yes, but when I get off, I’ll be driving over to Houston to take you out, he answers. Ok. Needless to say, dinner was just the beginning. He spends most of the evening telling me more about himself, his family, and his plans for Miranda, if I’ll say yes to letting him propose. Then he tells me about everything he has planned for the day he will propose - her Birthday. He and his roommate (a graphic artist) had already worked up a website with an invitation for her. On the website, icons drop down and each icon represents a present for her on her special day. His roommate dressed like a chauffeur, and they rent a Chrysler 300 for the day. Byron picks up Alyssa, and then Miranda. When he rings the doorbell, she is ready for the day, and escorts her to the car. She is surprised to find out that her sister was included in this occasion, and one of her roommates was along for the ride as well. He made special arrangements for each stop of the day, ahead of time, so that she went from stop to stop thinking that Alan was treating her to a very special birthday celebration. The stops included a spa salon where all three girls got manicures and pedicures; lunch at a local steak house; then a visit at a major department store where a personal shopper had been arranged to help her choose a new dress and matching shoes.
Finally, Byron takes them to her regular Hair Salon where she is treated to a complete makeover, including an updo to complement her new dress. She had no clue!
Byron then takes Miranda downtown to the restaurant where Alan is waiting. When they get to the restaurant, Alan is inside with a single long-stem rose in his hand. He told me later, that when the door opened, and she stepped inside, he almost dropped the rose. He escorted her to their table, where he had placed a wrapped box in front of her seat. The box was big enough to not give her any suspicion of its contents. Before ordering for dinner, he asked her to open the box. Inside was her ring. Miranda said yes, among the tears that were spilling.
