Sweet Shoppe Designs

I rarely feel sad when I see pictures of my children, but every once in a while there's a shot that makes my heart ache. This was one of them. So I tried to scrap the feeling too. It reads:


In this photograph,


I do not see the exhilaration of childhood set free in a playground.
I do not see the inherent joy of slapping feet and blowing hair.
I do not see sun shining on sand, reflecting on face, glowing in a smile.


I see you: oblivious, going, growing up.
I see my heart lurch sickeningly and my breath come in sobs.
I see only my love and loss.
And I see, in the end, that this is what a mother sometimes sees.
